Today James City County tells us we have six weeks to move our boats! Sixteen large boats need to find new slips. I’m pissed and concerned at the same time. Our docks are in bad condition but to drop this after winterizing. The Board meeting deciding this was done without input and it shows. My representative thinks that “non trailerable boats” mean derelict boats. Another thinks the slips should be on a lottery system so no one boat can be slipped for to long, giving others the joy of a covered slip.

There are no covered slips left on the James, so now what. I’ve been wanting to move up but hindered by bridges and depth. Maybe it’s time

Man that sucks! At least your boat is somewhat trailer-able, meaning you can hire a hauler to move you. Sounds like your powers to be are mindless idiots with little to no understanding of marina's. Not sure what I would do if that happened to me. Good luck.

Wow, that makes absolutely no sense.

I was upset when my marina told us they were cutting off power to Docks A-E 2 weeks early so they could replace the main walkway…. They gave us about 1 months notice. Basically no electric and as of November 1, or sometime there after they would remove access to the dock, unless you had a boat to get you there….

They should of gave you a notice at the beginning of the season, for our marina, that’s April 1st

I still Would not of been happy, but could of spent some time getting on lists for a new slip….

Do you keep your boat at the floating dock at James City marina? Where Hampton Marine service and the rental kayaks are?

I’m on the first set of covered slips, about halfway down facing the building.

I sea trialed a boat there a few years ago and we rent kayaks there every so often. So they're tearing down the floating covered docks?

That is what they are saying. It was a non by the books meeting late today. Not much hope for a meeting of the minds

It was a while ago, maybe four to five years now that I think about it. It was there getting serviced by HMS. They didn't slip it there permanently.

I am certainly no lawyer, although I do watch Law & Order, but is possible to file an injunction cease and desist order until a mutual agreement can be resolved?
Lawyer friend of mine did it slightly different situation but being a lawyer it didn’t cost him anything.

Our contract states the lease can be terminated at any time for cause. That means that the slip has to be cleared within 24 hours. Doesn't sound equitable but so far no history with a paying good standing customer. It actually happened post Nicole when a large sailboat tore the T-dock off where it was slipped. The marina did, in good faith, find a temporary location for the boat however no power. The boat on the other hand, was not tied per the marina's requirements for a storm; they easily could have played a much different tune....

T, I know. While ours doesn’t say that in those terms I know.

Mostly boaters, including me are upset over the loss of our boating family. Our dock is a very tight group. During my heart surgery they supported my wife, during the recovery they took shifts at my home. Bottom painting, we turn it into a group party. We can do two or three boats at one time, then we two or three the next weekend. So we aren’t just boats in slips. We have repaired, band aided, you name it to our dock to keep it above water and safe. All at no cost to JCC. We did it for us.

So we are upset, yes

Others are saying they will be putting theirs for sale this week. They have nowhere to go so they are getting out of boating

That’s unfortunate timing for a fire sale. I feel bad for these boat owners. I hope you find a solution to this mess and get priority for a new slip once they finish overhauling the docks.
