Captain Rusty Higgins update

Praying for a quick recovery. Good luck, Stay strong!!

Rusty, I had the great pleasure of meeting you at the Miami boat show in '18. You gave me a great tour of a couple boats my wallet won't allow. We talked about 410 Dancers and Expresses and your valuable thoughts on each. You went to a special stash to pull out a Sea Ray ball cap I only wear on special occasions, so it stays nice.

Before meeting you in person, I had full knowledge of your vast expertise on all things boat related and reputation as a true gentleman. Part of that came a few years before when you helped me tremendously with information about my dad's 1986 270 Dancer. We spoke on the phone and through email. You put together very valuable information that obviously took a lot of time to put together.

But meeting you in person was a true gift. What a pleasure.

I know the fears of a real health scare. In my case, it has been good for my perspective. The good things are now a little sweeter, the bad not as important.

This is a good place to share this as others mention their warm thoughts of you, and there is no need for you to respond to each of us.

Take care of yourself, hug your loved ones. You will get through this and be stronger for it. Prayer works and you will certainly have mine along with the rest of this rag-tag bunch.

God speed, Captain.

Frank,
Many thanks sharing this.

Rusty,
This is nothing more than a slight delay in your journey. I'd like to think that the worst part is over and the focus is on the recovery. You've always been a fighter and I have no doubts that you'll come out as a winner, in this fight.

We'll be anxiously waiting for more good news. Stay strong, my friend! Wishing you speedy recovery and can't wait to see you back on the water.

Remember brother that testosterone therapy is also essential; I can run your chainsaw and Harley up to NC if you need me to.

Frank, thanks so much for sharing this...

Captain Rusty thoughts and prayers to you for a complete and speedy recovery... You are a true gift to the CSR family, boating community, and the world. Thanks for all the advice and adventures you have shared. I'm still waiting for that Lake St. Clair MacRay Harbor delivery so I can buy you that lunch and beverage we talked about....
Take Care and Stay Strong

Captain, Sandie and I wish you a speedy and complete recovery!!

Rusty is a private man, a man I met long ago who cared enough to spend a Long time with me when I just got my 36DA we Met in NJ in Liberty landing he had a party to attend and have everyone “oogle” over him (well deserved) but he spent time with me a stranger, he took me through our new Sea Ray switch by switch, how to operate a bridge style boat etc…. I remember him saying it’s ok and turned to me and said “ I’m not leaving till you know this boat” and he didn’t!!! I made a life long friend that night I’ve been invited on a few big deliveries with Rusty since and have learned more than I’ve ever imagined, I’ve taken our 500 from Boston to the Bahamas with his guidance (over the phone ahhahah) he had my stops planned out ahead of my trip my fuel stops my oh oh stops, I’ve been to Rusty’s home he talks about his kids, grandkids etc to me I’ve seen his Harleys i know just about enough of this man to say I hold him as close as I can to me and my wife’s hearts to say we Love Rusty is an understatement and obviously we’re praying for a speedy and full recovery.., Rusty likes my wife (gees no surprise there right guys?) I want him to ride his New Sled to our home for a few nights in the hot tub and some Jack. So Rusty hurry the F up Martha said she needs some hugs from ya son….
Ps he texted me today,, he’s close to being done.
“dang son”

I started the Capt. Rusty Higgins up date thread on October 9, 202, when there were clouds on the Captain's horizon……….

This is the last update I will post for Rusty because we have now come full circle, and in his usual way, he has met every expectation…..ahead of schedule. I've stayed in touch with Rusty as he finished his radiation treatments and returned home, dealth with the effects of the radiation, extreme hoarseness and difficulty swallowing, eating mush, etc.

His biggest concern lately has been: "is he physically ready to return to his business and how make his client base aware of his availability to once again move and to responsibly deliver 6 figure vessels and how to test himself physically."

Well, he has answered that this week. He and a friend flew up north early in the week and picked up a 60' Azimuth to deliver to Ft. Lauderdale. The weatherman was wrong; 2-4' seas from the North turned into steady 6 ft seas on the stern and gradually degraded from there. Rusty made a conservative choice and ducked inside to the AICW. Because of his recent health battle, Rusty had only planed on a 6 hour/day float plan, but, as things usually go on a boat delivery, that has turned into 8+ hour days as they dealth with and adjusted for weather problems and the vagaries of poorly marked charting, missing markers and typical AICW shoaling. They extended their plan some as it became prudent to avoid the cold front that crossed their path and brought more tornados to the south. They are tied up at Palm Coast Fl tonight, having out-run the back side of a pretty aggressive cold front which is now behind them, washing the salt off the boat and looking for a couple of steaks.

Rusty sounded like "the old Rusty" with barely a trace of hoarseness in his voice and full of good humor. He has determined that he is ready to get back to work since he feels great and really missed being on the water and his friends who mostly have salt water in their veins.

Best of all, his primary physician at Mayo called him this afternoon to tell him he is Cancer-free based on his last check-up at the Mayo clinic.

There was no doubt in his voice this afternoon that Capt. Higgins is present, accounted for and ready to do what he does best. He can comfortably talk on the phone now so, call him if you need a boat moved or any of the other services he offers thru his company or just to catch up……..(Note: he is still several days from his arrival in Ft. Lauderdale and may not be able to answer this phone.)
