After finding conflicting info on holding tank capacity for my newly purchased 1997 400DA from Sea ray and other sources. What is the official size ? 28, or 40 gal
Thanks

My best guess is 40. I do have to ask though, why? When it's 1/2 to 3/4 full, empty it :)

Did you find conflicting information in SEA RAY documentation (owners manual and/or the original spec sheet... which can usually be found on SR's site)? Or are you basing the conflicting info on internet searches?

I would imagine your boat has a 40g tank - but check those documents. OR... look at the plate on the tank.

It's probably best to physically look at the ID plate, anyways, since things could have been changed over the years. Besides, that's a whole lot quicker than spending time doing internet searches... and you're GUARANTEED to get the right answer.

Forgive the 1997 low-res...indeed it is 40G.

Thanks all!!! Yes Sea Ray info as shown stated 40 gal however in the owners manual - fig12.3.2, - 28 gals was stated . Theredore my confusion and seeking a 400 DA owners confirmation of accuracy
As it is winter and boat 200 miles away stored, can not access tank tags Lnowing capacity is helpful as I do have guests onboard when not in attendance and as I do take Great Lakes remote trips , knowing what “1/2 “ really means has high value.

As the 97-400 owners manual 28 gal listing is also the tank size for the 370DA I currently have for sale, I did take that size number into consideration

Well that's pure silliness. You're quite right on the owners manual. There's no way it's 28 gallons. Way too big (in real life).

My experience is that 5 humans (3 of the smaller variety) can go more than a week onboard if you're a miser about flushing. In fact, this year I think I had just hit 1/2 after 5 or 6 days on one of my longer trips.

If it's yellow, let it mellow. Your key to holding tank happiness on longer trips...

Running out of fresh water is 100,000 times more problematic than filling the holding tank in my experience. 100 gallons goes wicked fast with 5 onboard...

Yup - that WOULD be confusing!

Aside from just a straight out misprint, there are sometimes model year changes (and even mid-model year changes). The literature doesn't always reflect the most up-to-date items that are actually on the boat since it is often printed ahead of time. This is another reason to physically verify (for accuracy) since what's on someone else's 400DA "may not" be the same as yours.

Once you get back to the boat in the Spring you can find the "final" answer.

Yes sir you are right on per verifying when doable
Just had a bit of time in my hands now So reached out
See the issues marine surveyors have to solve to publish an accurate report with integrity ? Thanks all. Happy November! Moving on and will Check my vessel in spring

And is the Owners Manual specific "1997 Sea Ray 400 Sundancer" or is it the generic "Sport Yacht Owners Manual"???

I work in the industry - I completely understand.

Great question
It is the Sport Yacht Owners Manual however near the end are some specifications & dimensions pages specific to the 400 Sundancer
