340 SUNDANCER THREAD

In the past have replaced cabin door rollers in our 310 Da. Our NTU 2001 340 is in need of the same thing. It looks like this door being one piece can just be unscrewed and pulled out with out removing the panel to the left.

So I'm happy to say that I'm now the happy owner of a 2003 (actually manufactured in 2002) 340DA :) Unfortunately it is going to be put into the parking lot for the winter in about 2 weeks... The positive to that is that I need a shaft seal replaced and the propellers balanced anyway.

So, I'm thinking about adding the Fox engine monitoring and I have some questions about the install - if anyone had done this already and can help.
I found 3 available connectors coming off the engine. One is towards the front of the engine (by the belt) and looks to have about 4 wires into it. There are two others towards the rear of the engine with 10 pins/wires and a second connection nearby with what looks like 8 pins/wires.

I'm assuming the forward 4 pin/wire connection is for the diagnostics. Anyone have an idea what the other 2 connectors might be for?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

You may have to do little research but I would think the 8.1s are Smartcraft. You may not be wired for them but if possible I would do that over the Fox.

Thank you KevinC. I'll try to find an email for the Mercruiser folks and see what they think about a Smartcraft retrofit for my engine serial #s.

You're a gentleman...

KevinC, Mercruiser was very quick in answering my email :)

They confirmed that my 8.1s are Smartcraft compatible and even sent along a list of parts needed for a retrofit with an explanation about the likelihood of needing a Mercruiser installer to change the ID on one of the engines so they can report separately.

Thank you for the suggestion, it is appreciated.

No problem. Depending on your budget you may want to look at the smartcraft connect option to bridge data and errors to a modern MFD. Both Raymarine and Garmin have a special app to display this info in their newer units.

We have a Simrad GO9 that has pages for engine gauges and monitoring. Does anyone know if there is a sending unit available for a 2000 340 with 7.4L MPI Engines? Thanks

Question - We have a 2000 340 Sundancer. There is an outlet on the port side below the arch between the trash bin and a storage compartment. Is this standard? It has a weather-proof cover. Reason for asking - We have a BoatSense bilge heater and an extension cord runs into the hull on that side. I'm wondering of the previous owner added the outlet to splice in the heater. A note on the panel says the "outlets" breaker must be on for the heater. Thanks.

My 2000 340 has that same outlet. It is covered because it can be out in the open when your canvas is down.

One more 'new owner' question please...

The yard has winterized my boat (2002 340DA) and removed the batteries for me to store over the winter.
It's presently disconnected from shore power with the engine hatch closed. I'm hoping to do some work/clean up of the engine space this winter and I'm unsure how to open the engine hatch now that the batteries have been removed.

I didn't want to assume that plugging in shore power again will let me raise the hatch until I checked with the folks here...

Am I missing something or is back to shore power the right way to go?

For what it's worth, I do expect to do much of the winterization myself next time - but the boat was too new to me this year so I had the yard do...

Thanks,
