That is not on Sanibel - not sure where it is but its not Sanibel.

My parents have/had a home on Sanibel, they made it through Charley with minor damage, but I suspect that wont be true for Ian. Thankfully they are safe still at their summer house and have a home to live in for the winter if needed.

Hurricane Irene 1999. Look familiar?

Just found out that a good friend's 52' Ocean Alexander is also missing from Ft. Meyers. Beautiful boat, such a shame.
What a sickening feeling. I guess though, those of you based in your version of God's country realize and accept the deal you made with mother nature. Its just part of the deal. I liken it to people that get so attached to their pets and are devastated when the life cycle come to a close. It really is inevitable that a bad event will happen its a mater of when and how bad. Not diminishing the heart ache mind you but it can't really be called a tragedy if it is expected. One day I expect my home will be destroyed by an earthquake. It is the risk I take to live in my version of God"s country.

I think Fox got this one correct. This is Legacy Marina in Ft. Myers. In the satellite image, I placed a red circle where I believe the camera for the Fox shot was located. I hear that Tarpon Point Marina in Ft. Myers was also destroyed.

Edit:
A picture on Facebook's Sea Ray 480 Sedan Bridge Owner's group of Legacy Marina during the storm. The FB post reads in part
"The green roofed building is Joe’s Crab Shack. Looks like a 480DB there in the middle."
For reference, see the satellite image above for the location of Joe's Crab Shack.

I’m in Beaufort, SC. At one time it was going to re enter land as A tropical storm pretty much centered on my house. Max sustained winds were projected at 50mph for a few hours tomorrow afternoon. Now they’ve moved the track east a bit to re enter at Charleston as a Cat 1. Interestingly that dropped the max sustained wind projection for me from 50 mph to 30mph. Being a bit west of us in Thunderbolt, should be no worse than that.
Been to Beaufort many times. Hopefully Charleston is not beat up too bad.

Actually just saw a post that they think they found it, but not where they left it, and not in good shape. It is, however, mostly above water. Ironically, it is in the picture @Shoyrtt posted above.

My friend is a snowbird liveaboard and VERY experienced boater. He has the boat in Marathon, and every previous year he has brought it up north to Ft. Meyers for the summer and kept it in a Cat3-rated storage facility. This year he decided to leave it in the water.

Ugh.

What is amazing is that Ft. Myers is up river and "inland." That water had to travel quite a ways to do that damage. Mother nature is a SOB.

It is just so sad to see this... Makes me wonder when you see a lot of nice big boats that they had to believe the forecast that Ian was going to go north and spare them. You have to think that if they knew it was coming to Ft Meyers they would have ran to Keys and up the intercoastal to protection... Definitely has me thinking differently now about when they approach this side. That is if i can even keep my boat after these insurance claims rock the industry again and they start dropping coverage again.

Any pics of that Marina here? Stayed in that hotel a few months back and wondered how it did?

What I find really sad is in that area just up river a ways it's nothing but unoccupied land. Would it be that hard for the insurers or someone to put in a haul out yard just for these occasions?
