So what do you all use for the oil filter on your generator. Mine is Westerbeke PN 036918. Westerbeke wants as much to ship the filter as the filter itself. Talking over $30 plus tax. I can pick up the Sierra version locally. Or maybe a NAPA cross reference?

Not sure I trust the internet to give me a cross reference. I found a place online, marineengineparts.com, that seems to be legit. About $20 for the westerbeke filter.

Now, what oil grade does everyone use. Per the chart in my manual, it suggests 10W 40, but I am finding that harder to find in a common brand. Anyone use 15W40?

My 8.0 BTD uses a Baldwin B179 and that's all I have ever used in 15 years... The impeller is a Johnson 810-B and Johnson is the pump's OEM. These parts are a LOT less expensive than paying WB. For oil I use what I have bought for the mains 30W.

Unless you're running in the winter, the difference between 10w-40 and 15w-40 is virtually non-existent.

Yeah. My manual has a chart. Once you hit 80+ deg. it falls into the 10w40 which apparently is harder to find than in my younger years. Newer manuals suggest 15w40 which is all over. I'm only going to run it in the summer, and generally only when hot out for the AC.

marineengineparts.com is legit, have ordered from them several times, no issues.

Yeah. Ordered from them. Should have the filter today. Found 10W40 Valvoline at Farm & Fleet last night. Unfortunately, looks like I am ready for winter. :)
