58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

It's the wood panel just to the left as you enter the bunk room. Grab an edge and pull.

Ours actually fell off while the our favorite Capt was delivering our boat last year with the door closed and wedged it closed. It took some calls to the factory to figure out a way in but we got in. There were 8 or so cabinet latches holding it up. As mentioned it was a royal pain to get all of them lined up again to put it back on.

Latches visible? Or something like "Christmas Tree" plugs? Or...?

Nothing visible on our panel...

-Chris

It's the same 10lb catch that hold the doors of the overhead cabinets in the bunk room (and other places) closed. They just put a whole bunch of them on.

I thought I had a picture but I don't.

REPLACING THE WASHER/DRYER -- AND THE REMOVABLE PANEL

Access to the side and back of the washer/dryer is from the bunk room a panel pulls off

If I was on the boat I’d take a pic but it’s a big access panel probably 3’x3’ held on by the same latches as the closet doors. Could be a pain in the ass lining them back up when putting back on but it’s the only way to access the back of the wrinkle unit.

Found it! Thanks, for mentioning it, Robert -- I'd have never known!

Seems like easiest place to start pulling it open is from the bottom right.

Mounting new unit to hard top? I am going to be mounting a starlink to the 580 that we are closing on in a few weeks. I notice on the hard top from the pics that the three “knobs” sticking up are where you can add mounts. The middle one is our satellite tv and then there are two available spots (one on each side). Does anyone know if those “twist” off some how and that’s how you feed the wires down or does anyone have any thoughts in regards how those spots work for mounting? Thank you!

For you guys discussing the door latch...I didn't go back into all of the threads, but I'll mention to look at the latch and see if it's pointed, or flattened off. Ours broke and then had the symptoms described (jumping the catch). I have Al bars to put in the tracks so we have security while aboard, and to at least make a thief have to think and find the bar to open from the outside (and stop the door from opening while underway) If you haven't looked into it, the latch/lock assembpy is $4500 from Taylor made last I called. Maybe the salvage business will save some. Anyway, I think I will try Carters dremel the "neck" a little as I've adjusted everything with little success.

My door was not holding in the open position. I had the Catch and Arm remade for me by Taylor Made $125 +/-. Did not include the lock or door handle of course. Will look again for the pictures.

Brian helped me through the lengthy process.

I assume you mean three flat spots at the aft edge of the hard top.

If so there are access panels on the inside held on with a handful of screws. There are several access panels on starboard side that will get you down behind the salon TV cabinet.

I would be curious how it holds up up there. I have been considering getting one next year.

So did you disassemble your lock assembly and return to them? Mine doesn't hold in the closed position. Different ends of the system.

Taylor Made re-manufactured the Rod and Catch at the top of the door. The Rod connects to the Lock Assembly. I did not return the lock assembly. The failed point on my door was the Catch was worn down and not grabbing the Stop.

When Taylor made quoted me that price a couple of years ago, I called him back and said “no I don’t need the whole door, just the latch assembly“. He laughed and said “that is the price just for the latch assembly!!!”

so I guess the laugh was on me!

Yes that’s exactly what i was talking about. Thank you and i will definitely let you know how it goes. Very excited to close on our 580. I had tested the starlink on our 44 sedan bridge prior to hurricane Ian and it worked flawlessly. I didn’t permanently mount it because we knew were looking for a 580. Our 44 was under contract to close this week but unfortunately was a complete loss due to hurricane Ian wiping out our marina (Legacy Harbour Marina -downtown fort myers). So now we collect the insurance and we were lucky that we were already in a position to purchase the 580, but because of the loss its going to cost me an extra 35k out of our pocket. Probably more than you wanted to hear but maybe its just the grieving process seeing something you took such good care of go down like that. Thanks again for your input as that helps me plan!

What a nightmare. My parents live on Sanibel, we visit this area frequently and have been for 40+ years. We are supposed to be there in December and January but that is not looking good right now.

Good luck on your purchase, the 58 is a great boat. What year is the one your purchasing?

Let me know if you need any help finding access I have run several lines from bridge to salon and engine room at this point.

Thanks Swaterhouse! Yes so sad for so many. We snagged a slip up in Tampa for the foreseeable future until Legacy gets rebuilt then we want to be back down in Fort myers. We had an ‘08 under contract but that too got damaged in the storm so we snagged our second choice which is an ‘07. I am hoping its a fairly easy run to the bridge storage locker where i want to put the Starlink router. Is there a way to get to either the cabinet above the helm or to the locker next to the freezer?

FYI it looks like you did the same as me going from the 44 sedan with QSC500s to the 580?

It pains me to look across at Legacy Harbor from our condo at North Star Yacht Club. I'm so sorry for your loss.

But you will love the 58. Hope we can meet you some day. I don't think Reward will be back in Ft. Myers for a least 3 years. Our slip at Tarpon Point was completely wiped out. We are glad Reward was in her Hurricane Hole at the Chattanooga Yacht Club!

Yes there is access across the hard top to above the helm, and along the wall to the cabinet by the ice maker.

We had a 44 Sundancer previously. For us the biggest running difference is conditions we would run relatively uncomfortable at 14kts in the the 44 we now run at 17kts relatively comfortably.

Make sure you know the MAN maintenance history of any boat you look at, if the A1 service (which brokers incorrectly call 1000 hour) hasn't been completed recently (within 3 years in FL saltwater) then read back through this thread on what is involved and what can happen if it's not done. One boat we looked at had the service done after not touching it for 6+ years and ended up spending 60k to replace heat exchangers and various other bits.
