Hi all,
The Air Conditioning on my 320 Sundancer is periodically tripping the breaker. It will run for a few hours, then trip. I turn it back on and the system runs for another few hours then trips again. Has anyone experienced this? Nothing harder to solve than an intermittent problem.

Might be tripping to overpressure due to excessive heat and not enough water flow. Hows the filter and water flow out the side? Is it running continuously before tripping, or cycling as it should after reaching set-temp?

Thanks for the fast replay. The water flow looks real good. Although, it seems to only trip during the day. It ran all night and cycled on and off without issue.

No, but I imagine if that were the issue the water flow would be poor, and the unit would always trip the breaker even at night. It runs all night long without issue.

There is an air filter screen just before the condenser coils, that also needs to be vacuumed out. For me, I need to clean it at least twice a year. This screen can be slide up and out, or a quick (and gentle) vacuum in place. A heads-up, the bottom of the screen sits in the condensate water and so will drip rusty water if you pull it out for a more complete vacuuming.

MJD, thank you. I will try that and let you know if it worked. That makes sense that it might be that filter because the previous owner had a dog.

I had a problem with a bad shore power circuit breaker, I swapped it with the genset breaker, problem went away, I also at anothe time had a bad sea water pump for the a/c, but that tripped it all the time

I’m with @brewster16, temperatures and load on electrical supply seems to affecting the consistency of your system. Since your system seems to run fine overnight, the issue is probably not on (in) your vessel.

brewster16 & jmcdboater, you make very good points. I am, almost all the way at the end of the dock. I'll make an attempt to monitor the voltage this weekend.

Thank you for your reply, I hope it's not the pump or breaker, but someone on my dock did suggest changing the breaker.

Simple to rule out the shore power issue with little to no effort. How does it due on your genny during the day? If it runs fine on your genny, then must be the power as stated above.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was thinking - I'm going to test this this weekend.

All - after a couple weekends of testing I am now sure that it is a shore power issue. Reason being, at least 25% of the people on my dock have pulled their boats for the season and my A/C now runs continuously. Thanks to @brewster16 for pointing me in the right direction.
