I have a new to me 2006 290 Sundancer. As purchased, there was a JL audio subwoofer in the gunwale on the port side. The cabin door when open covers it up (not relevant to my issue, just trying to clarify it's location). My assumption is that this is not OE installed, but regardless it is presently non-functional. I was fortunate enough to find an electrical schematic on line and it shows two separate stereo amplifiers. I've been unable to locate either one or an aftermarket amp. Does anybody know the location of the factory amps?

Our previous boat was a 290DA. That JL amp was added by a previous owner. The other location is behind the breaker panel. The whole thing comes out (not very far without having to cut zip ties and unplug things). I cant remember if you need to remove the door hinges to make it easier or not. If you have the premium sound the amp looks like a normal amplifier. If you have the regular sound system the amp is literally the size of a deck of playing cards. I bet that JL amp is being used instead of the factory one behind the breaker panel.

A ‘normal amplifier’ ??? What does that look like? Previous owner loved, loved, Loved them music!! Lol. These amplifiers (???see pictures) were installed in companionway hatch, added an extra bench in cockpit to house the three huge speakers they wanted aboard. I’ve removed the bench and speakers, left the two they installed in the radar arch, and the factory installed stereo below is all the music I need. The speakers in the radar arch don’t work, so obviously they were powered thru these two(?) amplifiers, maybe someday I’ll be lucky enough to find the wires and hook them up successfully to the factory unit. First, I need to get all of this off boat……

I did some digging this evening. The sub is Polk, not JL, so it appears to be factory. The wiring running to it appears factory as well. I removed the sub and hooked it to another stereo and it worked and then hooked a known good speaker up to the wires for the sub and had no sound, so speaker is good, but getting no power.

The last thing that I tried to do was remove the radio so I can peek at the wires. I was able to get it out this far before it seemed to be hung up. It feels like the wires are holding it and I didn’t want to yank on it.

That whole panel will come off. There are screws covered with black plastic "dots." I remember now and taking the door hinges off helps a lot. Good luck!

Thanks. I saw those when I was in there yesterday. It was my hope that I didn't need to pull that apart, but it looks like that's what I need to do.

I dug into it yesterday. There was only one amp, which was down below and to the left of the radio location in the breaker cabinet. It was mounted to a board attached to the gunwale. The wire visible in the picture was just a ground and while I could feel a wire on the other side, I couldn't see it. I also couldn't see any speaker wires coming from it. I'll post some more pictures on what I found, but in essence, there is only one amp I could see and it doesn't look big enough to power the sub. I can't see where the speaker wires from the sub go without further disassembly that I'm not willing to do (I'd have to disconnect the 120V wires from the breaker panel and I'd rather wire in a new amp then do that), so I put it back together.

I found these wires not connected to anything. They are a different color than the speaker wires, but they run back into the gunwale near where the speaker wires are...maybe they are spliced into the speaker wires and used to be connected to an amp??
