Some of you have heard me talk about our floating trailer park marina. I took some pics today.
First we have 3 live aboards, note the cockpit amenities. Then we have the “who needs canvas”. Lastly we have the welcoming committee at the entrance that haven’t floated in 10 years.

Oh and check out the nice 370 to the right behind mine. Had a Cabin fire. Guy bought for $7k, first time he took it out the starboard engine blew up. Estimated cost to fix was $10k, so he files a police report that he had $10k of stolen jewelry on boat. False police report. Last heard he fled to Costa Rica. You can’t make this stuff up. And the big boat behind his, nobody seen the owner in 3 years but the ac runs non stop even in winter.

Sad, we lived on our 500DA for years, in a first class marina. Our boat was washed every week, detailed 2 or 3 times a year. Never any crap in the cockpit or on the dock. Boat was always ready to travel for long weekends. What you are showing is what creates the liveaboard cloud. I guess the difference is those that do it because they want to, and those that don't have a choice.

Times have changed in DC. We used to have 90 plus liveaboards at the Gangplank marina in in DC out of 300 boats (circa 2000). It was a bohemian lifestyle similar to living in Key West. They had parties every weekend and generally took care of each other as well as keeping the riff raff off the docks. Slip rates were $300 a month.

In 2022 those slip rates (after a marina restoration and renaming to The Wharf) are now $1000 per month which is still cheaper than 1 bedroom apartments nearby. Those 1 bedrooms go for $1,800 to $2,200 a month.

Most of the marina's on the northern Potomac require a seaworthiness inspection every 3 years to keep the junk out of the Marina.

It is sad to see boats in that condition......

Yes. Slip fee is full year. 1800. Equal to one month apt rent around here.
Wow. My slip is $95 a foot, or about $3500, from April to November. And that’s definitely on the lower side around here.

Liveaboards are not too common in my marina, but there are a few.

There are a few really ratty looking boats that get little attention during the season. I'll never understand spending thousands a year to keep a deteriorating wreck that gets no use around.

They tend to migrate to the boneyard one by one to be replaced by others. That boneyard has about a dozen boats in it now and it tucked away in a corner.

It's otherwise a nice marina with less than professional management.

$1600 May 1st through October 15th. 30 Amp electric and water included.

Guy next to me is paying 150/foot for a 35 foot slip to dock his 150 whaler

1800 a year, can’t beat it. With swimming facilities. Jump in the river.

I pay 900/mo for slip and 220/mo for hull dives/cleaning. I thought 13K/yr wasn't bad.....

We're planning on taking it around the Fla coast in stages and winding up at Bear Creek in Orange Beach, Al. Already arranging the slip....will be 2hrs more drive than Savannah.

Whew!

Wow the one boat looks like a tree growing from it

Our marina also required any one living on boat must come to pump out no more than 30 days. This was their way of making sure boats were in good running order. Boats like that would not be allowed in our marina.
