Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

I was lucky in two ways, both of mine are bronze. The second, I have a great slip neighbor. He took my old one and rebuilt it with new seals and bearings. Now I have a spare

Have a question about stereo amps. I can turn a wrench OK, but don’t know diddly about stereo systems. Read in here somewhere the factory amps can be small, might be two for average factory installed sound system. I have one app. 5” X 7” at helm inside hatch below steering wheel, seems like original. Previous owner had some kinda sound fetish, installed two huge amplifiers (??? I think) in companion way hatch. See pix below. They had even build an additional bench seat in cockpit to house extra huge speakers. I removed the bench seat, gave away four big speakers, left the two nice, heavy duty looking speakers in radar arch, and now I guess I just rip the amps out???? The factory installed stereo below works fine, but only drives the speakers below. I’d love to hook the radar arch speakers to that stereo, but I have not even found where the wires can be accessed, although they must be in the companion way hatch with all this amplifier stuff, I would need to identify them. Thoughts? Suggestions? Sincerely appreciate any and all help!

I used to do hifi a long time ago. I forget the term, but I think it was "component speakers", they perform better and can only be powered by a separate amp (not your head unit's amp), so you might consider that situation. However if they are just normal speakers and your head unit has enough power left, you could give it a try. There are other compatibility things you'll want to research like ohms and wattage requirements.

I got the new sea water pump but it looks a little different. Should I be worried?

That Sony Amp is a subwoofer amp. If you removed the subwoofers, that amp is likely useless.
I cant really tell anything about the other amp.
Found a picture of something similar
https://s.yimg.com/aah/yhst-87886758944521/almani-car-amp-18.gif
but couldn't even get a model off it.

If you want to know if that amp is hooked up to any speakers left on your boat, you can buy something like this:
(i have an android phone so it is USB-C)
https://www.amazon.com/VENTION-Type-C-Theater-Amplifier-Speaker/dp/B088T9NJNJ/

Plug the USB-C end into your phone and the RCA jacks to the input of the amp. Play anything and see...

Once you know if those speakers are hooked up to the amp, then you can run an RCA line from the radio/head unit to the amp.

Shaps,
Thanks a lot, some great ideas, I will go that route!

As you can see from this pic the brass ring thing doesn't appear to be pressed on at the same distance the original is. Is that going to be a show stopper?

The mounting studs look different as well. Do the part numbers match?

The mounting studs are the same I just didn't have them laid the same I guess, and my old one was missing a screw.

The part # is 46-807151 but unfortunately that just references the plastic part with the impeller inside and the valve stems.

I believe this part is a succession of 46-72774A32. There must be extra numbers that further describe it but I don't know how to find out for sure. One thing I was told is that this is not the Bravo system.

If the overall length is the same I wouldn’t think it will misalign the belt or pulley

Maybe some of the others will chime in before morning If not I will see my shop guy in the morning and ask then

Replacement is finished. I ran the engine for a bit, no funny noises, water is pumping out like normal, temp is a steady 145F. The pully seemed to line up fine. I guess its a wrap?

Who wants to buy a Sea Ray? :)

My sump pump in the middle of the hull stopped working, does anyone know the reference part numbers and what its like to replace one?

Mine sits in the aft cabin and is a piece of cake to get too. It's under the cushion and there are very few jobs where you can sit on a cushion while you work! Just get a similar pump after checking the pump, part number and gallons per hour. It should be two screws holding it to the bulkhead or bottom, one hose and two wires (or maybe a few more to the float switch?) to rewire. Check the float switch before you start and make sure that works and is sending power to the pump. It should be pretty easy! I'm not sure I would want to do it while in the water, but the discharge should be above water. I'd be ready with a plug or something just in case water comes in. It shouldn't!

Ok so a couple of screws and wires I should be able to handle that.
Mine is located after the battery galley under the battery charger in the engine room. I just have to scoop the water sitting out of there so I can see whats going on.

New water won't come in, this is left over from the sea water pump fiasco and it never got pumped out.

I guess I check the switch using a volt meter? Do I need to shut the batteries off so I don't get zapped?

Ok yours is like mine I think. There are three in the engine space and another under the steps. It’s still the same tho. Check for power first to be sure that is the problem

This might help

Throwing Wakes, I have the sister vessel to yours, the 88 300 Sundancer. What is the sump you are talking about? Are you referring to the air conditioner water pump? Thanks a bunch.

OK, Anybody….. ‘sump pump’ in the middle of the boat? Boats don’t have sumps, do they? Never found one on my 300 Sundancer…….;)o_O

Thanks a bunch, Drifter22ft…. You have our sister vessel. That’s weird, I thought I had looked under every section, but I missed that one. We’ve just had this vessel two months, but I’m checking that bilge pump next time on the boat!:D
