Has anyone increased the length of their center queen bed?

I really, really, really want to sleep on/in the queen forward bed on the boat. At 6'3" my legs hang over though. I've tried multiple positions, same result. I end up having to bend my knees, I get restless, toss and turn. So, I sleep in the aft cabin bed.

I was looking at it thinking there has to be a way to extend the length with plywood/MDF, wood framing, etc. and then order a custom mattress. And it doesn't look too bad.

Has anyone done something like this?

We have a three inch memory foam on it, but I’m guessing it could be a longer one if there was a piece of plywood in between the regular mattress and the topper. It’s a thought

Me being 6'2" have been thinking the same thing when we downsize boats. I have figured if you remove the front facing upholstered trim, attach a piece of plywood to the top of the existing bed, reinstall the trim. Might have to modify the trim.

When we had the 44DB, the Admiral and I had no problem. With this 420DA, doesn’t work. She is 5’5” and I am 6’4”. I drew the aft cabin.

I'm 6'2" and forward berth was marginal but the mattress was more comfortable. When Sharon was there that's where we slept but when I was there on my own I always slept in the aft cabin.

You could gain an inch or two by going to a thicker mattress and having the edges slanted so that it rides up the hull sides better. Problem with my boat, and possibly yours, is that the headroom is already pretty challenged on that boat so you'll have to see if it was worth the tradeoff.

Had a custom mattress made 3 inches longer.

Interesting reading about sleeping habits when we’re all aboard. Married twenty four years, on the hard, my wife and I have spent, literally, less then five nights in separate beds. Aboard….. we have a ‘88 300 so our v berth is smaller than most of yours. We spent our first three nights together in there, then I drew the aft cabin. LOL, we both sleep much better aboard now. Small sacrifice to be aboard…..

My buddies 46 has it done. The PO was 6'5" and added a foot or so to the end and had a custom mattress made. It had to cost a pretty penny but came out nice. Upholstered the the trim to match and installed legs to support the weight. I don't have any pics but can get some next time I see him.

I would use this as an excuse to get a bigger boat!! lol

I agree, however I just bought this one. Stupid me forgot to check the length of the forward queen, it looked big enough so I went with it.
