Ok I just bought a 2001 Sundancer 310...I think. It was sold as such. My insurance company has come back and says that by the hull number, it is a 1997 model.

Except
1. I don't think there was a Sundancer 310 in 1997
2. The 1998 has a wildly different interior
3. Pictures online of 1999-2000 boats are different. Different graphics, different logos, finishes, etc.
4. Before buying I looked at about 10 different '01 models, and have reviewed again today, and they are all identical to the 2001 I bought. Cabin config, hull graphics, the helm...everything.

So I'm convinced it is a 2001 because that is what I see before me, but what's with the hull number?

Hull CRSUSV03K697

That doesn't look like a Sea Ray hull ID#.
Got any pics of the boat or better yet, a link to the listing?

That hull number says it's a 1997 model year built in November 1996.

Here's the Manufacturer look up for that HID: https://www.marinetitle.com/reference/boat-manufacturer-report.aspx?mode=hin&term=crsusv03k697

It is a model year 1997 Cruisers built in Nov. 1996 as @firecadet613 stated.

Hope that you made a mistake on the serial number and/or you didn't take delivery on the boat yet.

Really interesting stuff. I've inspected the boat and had a survey done but we are just closing today so I'll check the hull number personally tonight or tomorrow. THanks everyone.

Crazy stuff. Seems certain that 2 sellers ago he got it wrong. It's the only boat my Seller every owner.
He sent me a copy of his Vessel Registration and sure enough that's the hull number on it.

I'm going to the boat tonight to check out the hull number personally.

Your surveyor should have included the hull number in his report.

That's the crazy thing ...

How does it change?

Maybe somewhere along the line it's a data entry issue

I have seen issues with CarFax when it comes to odometer readings -- due to the number being entered incorrectly -- but never a boat hull number

I got curious so I pulled up the original survey I had done and found this

I went to the boat. The Hull number on the transom definitely indicates an '01 Sea Ray. The Vessel's registration is the other number, indicating a '97 Cruisers. Crazy. I'll register with the real number.

Canada has a website where you can run a hull or registration number to see if it's stolen...it's not, so that's good too!

Hoping you get this resolved!

Someone screwed up somewhere along the way

Buying a boat is nerve-wracking enough even without this kind of nonsense
