My port 454 idles at 20- 30 PSI and drops below 20 (sometimes close to zero) at 3200rpm. The alarm didn't come on. Should I start with the oil sending unit or start with the analog gauge. If I should start with the sending unit can somebody please tell me where it is?
I use 15-w40 synthetic in it.

If your looking from the front of the engine it's on the right under the exhaust manifold toward the rear of the engine. Cylindrical shaped with a brown wire attached

Thanks for the Speedy reply. So you think I should start there vs the gauge?

Pull that brown wire off and ground it with a jumper wire, if the gauge pegs full pressure it's not your gauge.
You have to excuse my ignorance. I am really new at this stuff. I'm going to guess that I should run a wire from the positive post on my battery and connect it to the gauge wire......

Happy Father's day. I'm assuming that this is it. The wire going to it is brownish, It is near the transmission and the silver line below it runs to the oil filter. Thoughts?

Nope that one triggers the audible alarm. The one your looking for is 4x bigger and cylindrical, should be in the same general area

update: That's not it. This is and my gauge did go to 80. Now I'm going to replace the sending unit and cross my fingers.
