Kohler 5E Fuel issue- wont start

Sensors location can be found in the manual I attached. Section 1.7 fig. 1.1
Yes, unplugging the wires and NOT allowing the ends to touch each other or anything else.
Oil check procedure is also in the attached manual. DO NOT SCREW IN, (see attached pic)
The small wire attached to the solenoid on the bottom of the carb is for the antidieseling.
Bleed coolant by filling and running then remove plug on the top of the heat exchanger and topping off probably 3-4 cycles.

A $1000+ dollars could easily be spent throwing parts at the undiagnosed problem and if resolution can’t be found a tech should be called in.

thanks.
yes agree i'm going thru the troubleshooting
but also i can change the original oil pressure switch for $30 (still ridiculous price) in 5 mins and save time removing and testing it etc.

problem here is you call a tech in and they might come by labor day. if you can find one.

Ok.. I burped the coolant and it did take quite a bit of coolant so there was air in there. But it still will run 10-20 seconds then stallout unless I hold the start button in. People keep saying the plug on top of the heat exchanger. don't you mean the plug on the right of the photo?

Yep, that’s the plug on the top of the heat exchanger.
Anyhow, good luck and let us know the outcome.

i disconnected the two sensor wires on switch on the heatex which i assume are water temp and coolant. and i disconnected the OP switch. raw water strainer is clear. still same short run and stall condition.

Well, i changed out the oil switch. why not? the unit ran a bit rough and sputtered, but for a while longer until it stalled again. smoky oily exhaust and low rpms.

after another restart it slowly improved and now seems to be running and working normally.

it's possessed

let's hope it continues

I had Kohler 5E problems for over a year. Hours of troubleshooting and cussing. Ended up being the fuel pump. Do yourself a favor and remove the fuel pump and take the top off and look for corrosion. Even if this isn't the problem, it soon will be. I replaced the pickup fuel pump (small square one on the inlet) and the main fuel pump and now it runs perfect. My boat is a freshwater boat FWIW.

The choke coils loose their memory after a few years and it is a discontinued item. Given the I never start my genny in cold, less the 50*, I adjusted it so that it never closes and no problems starting since.
I had to put a new carb on my and I save $175 by closing it from kohler to Kawasaki, the engine mfg., and buying it from Kawasaki.

i've got it running fine now except for the surging which i will live with this season as to not screw something else up trying to fix it

where did you find the carb part number cross reference? can't find one.

just like my universal diesel i buy Kubota parts for half price.

There isn’t a cross reference. The detective work starts with the serial # on the Kawasaki engine then go to jacks small engine.
I saw on another thread that teh marine version carburetor may be designed a bit differntly. Not sure I believe it though
