Good afternoon folks, I bought a new housing since min was leaking behind pulley. The new kit cam with a stainless washer that fits down in housing, it has a rubber gasket on one side and the other side is just stainless. Do i need that washer? I compared height of old impeller to new and they are the same. Is that washer used if housing is scored or worn to makeup the gaps?

Scratch that comment about the height the same, the new impeller is just short of the old one, with the washer in hte housing it looks like its the same. Im guessing rubber gasket side down and away from the impeller since it would wear fast and break off to float along somewhere!

Post a pic. It sounds like it may be a replaceable wear plate.

Assuming this is for your 320 DA and you have Mercruiser pumps?

That is a wear plate.

Smooth one side, rubber on the other? And it's not quite round -- slightly oval?

That is it as you describe, If I put in the housing the impeller is too tall to put the the other half on. The old housing did not have one so I put it together without the wear plate. The height was correct and looked correct.

Merc has the shorter impellor. You'll ruin your new housing with no wear plate.
