Aging bodies and keeping up with maintenance.

Has anyone upgraded their engine room lights? There are only four incandescent fixtures with frosted covers in mine, each of which are located in a corner and leave the most important areas without light.

I just installed 5 in my bilge 2 weeks ago, rectangular RV lights. Only issue I have is each one does have it's own switch. Wasn't looking for that but no real issue. Liked 'em so much that I am going to order more and add a few more back behind the genny and the center aisle. I'll see if I can post the link.

LED is the way to go and ideally, would want to replace the existing four, add a couple in the middle fore and aft and possibly one centrally located on the bottom side of the hatch. Any thoughts?

As soon as I finished and could see, I realized the bilge needed cleaning!

I like being able to see in there now. My originallights used 1156 12vdc bulbs...

I installed these a few years ago, it's like night and day in the bilge now.

I recently replaced the engine room lights in our 400 DB. I used LED utility lights that were mounted through the aluminum rails. They are numerous (8) and are adjustable and aimed into the areas that need to be illuminated. The place looks like an operating room now.
Even though they are LED, there are so many diodes in each fixture that I draw almost 11 amps when lit.
Now I need to remove the current switch and install an illuminated switch to remind me to turn them off once I'm done. I have already forgotten to do so one too many times.
As for the hatches, I don't see the point of mounting lights on them in my application as they are open when I'm down there. Maybe I'm missing something.

When replacing these, is this an easy swap, meaning remove the old lights/box, install the LED ones? Maybe have to drill new holes to install them, but the wires and everything else match up just fine?

Probably worth a new thread at this point since we're getting off topic.

Yep, took about 30min for five. I'll have to run the wiring for the additional ones.

The operating room look is just what I'm going for. The hatch on my sundancer opens 45 degrees and I figured one light on the underside of it would light up the ladder and tops of the engines. Since you have a sedan bridge, the lights in your salon serve that purpose.

Mounting them on the underside of the hatch would work very well then, especially if you can articulate them. Go bright or go home.

I keep the zodiac and outboard in house for winter. Today I took the zodiac to marina but because I have a small car I had to make a 2nd trip for the engine. Glad I’m only 8 miles from marina.
By the time I got it all setup(inflate, gas motor, put motor on it) I was wiped. Went for a nice river ride, but in 93* heat it kicked my ass. By noon I called it a day.
