Received Buffalo Video

It's my understanding that the shooter ordered his AR-15's after he turned 18 and purchased them through an FFL or FFL at a retailer.

In my opinion... if our government thinks at 18yo, you're old enough to go fight for your country (or somebody else's country), you should be allowed to own a gun. I waited 6-months to get my pistol license application approved 15-years ago and a friend of mine just waited over a year, due to the ramped up demand, required background check and of course COVID. They're not just handing them out!

There are an estimated 300-million legally owned civilian firearms in this country. The government will never get the legal gun owners to give them up. If they wanted to try to solve the problem, which they're not, they'd be better off concentrating on resolving mental health issues.

As for you people who live in a different country.... if you don't know anything about your own country's gun laws, you should limit the advice you give on what we should do about ours, especially if you get your statistics from CNN.

I agree with your first paragraph.

I am by no means giving advice. Concentrating on mental health will not resolve everything either lol. You must think Canada has nobody with mental health issues?

Nobody seems to be able to answer why School shootings are so rare in Canada compared to the weekly occurrence in the US. Why?? somebody answer. You all just come back with some political bullshit everytime

Also, I shouldn't assume gender in this case either. Word has it, its gender could be different that what is assumed.

I don't know the answer/solution, but there was a guy on the news last night (his child was killed in a prior school shooting I think) who asked the same question I did: Why are we sending a gazillion dollars to Ukraine to help them yet we can't even protect our own children? Use the money here, in our country"

They don't happen where people carry for a reason - the cowards don't want people who will fight / shoot back.

Not sure I agree with this statement. I don't think this 18 year kid knew enough about the law to think he would not get shot by a gun carrying citizen. Also, I have to assume these shooters/murderers go into this knowing they are not coming out alive, probably hoping they do not, a murder/suicide event.

To those who think we need to do a better job identifying/counseling/helping the troubled kids, one of my nephews was that kid. His mom, my sister, could no longer parent him (rage, violence, threats, etc.) so he went into foster care. Foster care, counseling and other things seemed to help over the years. We thought he "turned out ok" until he did a attempted murder/suicide with his gf, the mother of his 3 kids. We were all shocked, but not surprised.

I think it's ok for a parent to say "I need help" and not remain silent. Short of that I don't think there is much more a parent can do with this type of child. Note, I am not a parent or a professional in this space.

It's not political bullshit..... politicians run both of our countries. I don't know much about your country, but I do know your president recently had enough political power to put your citizens in COVID quarantine camps to serve his goals. Our president more easily has the power to circumnavigate the senate and congress and divide us with executive orders, which appears to be his goal. All politicians have an agenda and in most cases, it does not involve solving our problems, especially if it conflicts with their agenda.

BTW.... social media has a lot to do with today's youth lacking morals and so easily lashing out at others. It will be the downfall of society as we knew it!

Would not be suprised at all, but not the root problem IMHO. Order online, pick a local FFL for the forms, and give 'em $20.

It's how they are raised, or not. That's the problem I think. It's a shame.

Agree - You cannot legislate away evil.

Agree or not - please help me understand why the majority of these occur in gun free zones??

I saw that as well - so perfectly legal. I just saw a blurb he was "known" to police - whatever that is supposed to mean...

Just looked it up, was an AR-15 in yesterdays shooting as well. Of course that’s just reports from shitty news stations as of now

AR-15 means nothing. In a mass shooting, they'd be better off with a glock with a 30 round mag, but ARs are the big scary guns, so that's what they typically use...

100%....the problem isn't guns....

100%. Like I said earlier, some people are just wired wrong and maybe not fixable.. It's a sad reality. Hope your family is doing ok

I don't know why you are still stuck on this. Obviously a gunman is going to aim for a place with a gun free zone... Common sense I would think.

We've established that there needs to be no gun free zones and teachers need to carry semi-automatic rifles to protect their children.

I dont remember establishing that.

I am 100% behind that. in fact Oklahoma started arming teachers a few years ago. It is voluntary not mandatory, and the teachers have to go through firearms training. The left fought hard against it because guns are evil.

Sorry we established they should be armed. I took it too far

Not even that - just remove the gun free zone. I do not want ALL teachers to be armed. Have you met some of these teachers?

I want dads, grandparent, moms, etc to not have to disarm when they go to their children's school. My son had field day a few weeks ago at his school and we all were disarmed...that is the issue. Let it be like it was before 1990....didn't have many mass shootings then. Then again, we had a family unit in most homes, father figures in childrens lives, etc.

But since we were talking mental illness earlier....well....leftism is a mental illness...

If they want to be and want to get trained. There is no training required to get your carry permit in most states (heck over half of the states have no carry permits required)...but quite a few people go above and beyond taking training classes, shoot regularly, etc. It's a fun hobby to have....

Fair question. I assume Canada has video games (violent ones) social media, music about killing cops, mental illness etc. So why the difference? And I am asking this as an owner of guns. I can say the US has this rule of innocent until proven guilty. These guys (and all of the ones we knew in school like previous posts above) can talk about it, post about it, buy guns until they are blue in the face. Until they commit a crime, prosecution is almost impossible. We almost always hear the cops "knew" of they guy before these incidents happen. "Knowing" about them and "doing something about it" before hand seems the issue. We don't need gun reform, we need law reform.

Also, arming teachers...up here in this neck of the woods, most teachers grew up with guns. It wouldn't be a big leap for our shop teacher to put a pistol on his hip. However, in urban areas, I have to think it would be a much bigger transition unless Mr. Smith was in a gang as a kid. I say this last part in jest.

Anyone that would shoot up a bunch of little kids is crazy and they didn't just get crazy that day. It's common after the fact we find out people knew they weren't right, the parents knew, the school knew, fellow students knew, authorities sometimes knew, they were on the 'radar'...but they fell through the cracks.

Right, so I think the question is how do we get to them and help them before they do something like this? I don't have the answer. And you can't send a counselor, doctor, police officer, etc. after every request/cry for help. How do you figure out which cases are the highest priority? All rhetorical questions.

So I'd just point out the misinformation in your posts which shows a bias. An earlier post referenced "automatic" rifles which are not available to the average citizen. Second, school shootings like this are not a "weekly occurrence." In order to solve the problems we have to have be honest and objective about the facts. Clowns like Kerr get on the TV and just start screaming "do something" when that something is banning all guns.
