Hello
I have a 1998 210 bowrider that has been running wonderful. However the last time I was out, the motor decided to shut off. My mechanic has said the oil is not pumping to the starboard side of the motor, when he started it for me he said it sounded like a man was in the motor banging a hammer. He checked and the oil was not getting to the starboard side as if there is a blockage and he needs to tear the motor down to see what the issue is. The motor is original, only 400 hours on it and I had it tuned and all fluids changed. Any idea or experience with this type issue.

Don't sound good. Did you hear the banging? If it is truly banging I wouldn't spend any more money on that engine letting your guy sniff around. Think repower, it happens.

I did not hear it, I asked him to send me a recording to hear it.
I'm with Scoff here, I'm not getting the warm fuzzy.

Only takes a couple minutes to remove the filter and have a look what's in the top of it. Maybe poor a bit over an oil absorbent pad. Main and rods would show a lot of debris if one of them is the cause of the hammering.

Thanks for the replies, I will be in Fla soon to see what's up, I sure hope it is not as bad as it could be. The boat is in excellent shape and ran so well for the past 2 years. I suppose I will know soon enough.

It seems the push rods on the starboard side are not getting oil flow. The mechanic is going to further investigate the issue, oil level is where it should be, pressure is OK. Maybe it is a fixable problem will know sooner then later.

Do you trust your mechanic? Have you used them before?

Between the both of you, agree where the stopping point is going to be (investigative labor wise) before you just replace the motor. Hate to see you spend a bunch of labor dollars when you could put it towards a rebuilt 5.0 and be on the water in 2 days once received.

I have not cut him loose yet and he is trustworthy as long as I have worked with him. I agree, I did find a remanufactured 5.7 from a well regarded group Rapido Marine, 2 day delivery and complete engine. I appreciate the commentary. I don't want to drop dollars in a well for sure.

Loosing oil pressure to the top of one side only is most likely a spun cam bearing if oil pressure truly is good and you have plenty of volume on the other side.

Did you every get your low (WOT) rpm figured out from last year? Curious what you found/did if anything.
