Shore Power

Yes I have said it before, I hate those 30A twist plugs...
That is a common problem, the new AC unit likely was the last straw.

Go this route. I burned up a twistlock and never again. Big thick full contact blades. If im gonna have a fire let it be out on the pedestal, not in my trunk

Holy crap!!

However, there still should be a GFCI in the head. Sea Ray likes to hide them in the cabinet. Probably one at the galley too.

The rings only help stabilize movement.
The deeper issue is the contact surface is just to small.
It’s a 1930’s design that was never meant for marine use. Introduced to boats when a battery charger and a coffee pot was the load.
We’ve added way to many appliances to modern boats.

That's correct and most of his issue was likely too much movement. His boat has 30a hookups and most slips his size have 30a shore power (my 40' slip has twin 30a hookups, most of the transients we use are the same or a single 50a). Switching to a 60a 230v is not a realistic solution for the OP....

I had the same issue the OP had (a burned up inlet plug) and zero issues since I switched to the locking ring.

I knew better then to bother trying to explain anything to you.

My connection is a standard water proof pin and sleeve marine rated for 60A
I use it with a standard 50A pedestal connection so my boat end will never be overloaded.
As to the OP boat it is a dual 30A system that is very easy to convert to 230v.
Like your home is 230v but individual circuits are 115v
And this explanation is not for you but others that might be interested.

No, I understand you 100%. It is you that does not understand.

The OP is likely a new boater with a 20 year old boat and you want him to convert it to 50a 230v so he'll not be able to plug right it at most of the slips that are his size?! I've yet to see a 30' slip with 50a power...

Makes a hell of a lot of sense to me.

I posted a simple, logical fix that will solve his issue and not make his 2001 340 DA a unicorn when he goes to sell.

Take the chip off your shoulder @hughespat57.... you've got some pent up aggression there bud!

But, glad we gave the OP some options. Let's see how he resolves his issue - but OP - glad it is something simple! Just check the wiring on the backside of the inlet when you go to replace it.

I did the same thing on my 340 after I burned up the standard plug. Would never go back. Easy install and doesn't come undone.

Considering getting two of these one for each line. The new cords would not be a bad idea. Might just get one for now though to replace the damage plug/cord. SmartPlug 30 Amp 50ft Cordset w/Stainless Steel Inlet & No Thermostat , small -C30503/BM30NT https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G60YXCS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_SG6W7242ZD60JV182S82?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Damn, $400. They sure are proud of it. If you do the swap, let us know if the new inlet is an exact fit swap with the existing.

What was involved with the changeover? Simple as just removing wires from old and hooking them up to new?
They designed it to switch out both the cord end and the boat female plug without having to modify anything. Took me all of 30 minutes to do both.

Had to change an end recently. This video was helpful.
Ok thanks! My cables are old so I decided to buy new ones to be safe. Do you know if smart plug makes a splitter for the two lines?

Do you know if smart plug makes a splitter? If my current one doesn't work I'd like to buy one if they make it.
