Hi folks, does anyone know the brand of the air horn on the 2004 420 sedan bridge?
Mine weren't working so I took them apart and found the diaphragms to be full of salt as well as the diaphragm housing. Got everything cleaned up but discovered some hair line cracks in the plastic diaphragm pieces. I taped them up with some industrial packing tape. Haven't been able to get them back on the boat yet, so two questions: will the tape work and/or does someone know where or how to get replacement diaphragms? Also, will just blowing in to that nipple with my mouth generate enough air pressure to make them sound? Because it's not..LOL
Thanks in advance. Mark

Likely Kahlenberg horns. That is what was on our 07 44DB. You should be able to blow in the nipple and they should sound off.

Ok, thanks for the info. I went to their website and the diaphragm is totally different looking. Granted it's 18 years later! Mine are like a clear plastic looking material. The website looks like bronze or copper diaphragm.

Try the AFI 11058. That’s what’s on the 1997-2003 400 DB.

Do they look like these?

The clear diaphragm models are usually the "on demand" style compressor powered horns. (small compressor directly connected to the horn) They usually use much less pressure than the pump/reservoir with a solenoid valve type. The clear diaphragm type should be fairly loud just with lung power.

With the small compressor that is directly connected to the horns, which only generates pressure when the horn button is pressed, generally they just need a few drops of oil squirted down the pressure outlet fitting, and your off to the races. BUT, if no sound happens when using lung / lip power, maybe the clear diaphragm is not seated or torn.

Metal diaphragms tolerate much more pressure but also need more pressure to oscillate, hence much louder volume output.

bbwhite jr, yes they look like those. ZZ13, thank you. I reassembled everything and pushed some compressed air thru them via an air hose and they sounded like a horn. So I guess I'm good for now. Will probably need to find that replacement diaphragm at some point. Just for reference, the air compressor is under the master suite bed and the air horns are in the starboard anchor locker.

Doubt the tape will work - but who knows.

I had an issue a couple of years ago, found the manufacturer on the web, call their technical support. Talked to the guy and he offered to send me a couple of new diaphragms. I asked how much - his reply was they are 1.98 apiece, its easier for me to just mail them to you than trying to collect $4.
