Hello Captains,

When trying to remove the captain's chair (helm seat and pedestal) from our 2007 44 DA in order to have better access for electronics work, my husband "didn't have the right tool" (read, couldn't figure it out) to remove the base from the floor. Upon returning from the store with the right tool, he had disassembled the entire thing, down to taking the two pieces of the pedestal apart exposing the hydraulic actuator and the white sticks - guides to keep the posts from twisting during operation.

My problem now (as of course I'm the one trying to reassemble it) is that I can't get the darned thing back together! There is a plastic guide that sits on top of the bottom post, then you insert the 12 sticks into that guide (it's a pain to keep them in there!), then place the second post on top and push down, where the guides should stay in the tracks for ease of movement. Currently, the plastic guide is in pieces as it tears as you push the sticks down, and one of the sticks is missing.

I MUST be doing something wrong ... I can't figure out why it keeps happening. The best I've been able to do is get the posts back together with the majority of the sticks in the tracks. Some of them keep popping out of the bottom as you move the slide base up and down. Does anyone know how to reassemble this thing??? Or at worst, where I can find a new one?? I am so beyond frustrated with this thing!

May I suggest posting some pictures?
You never know who may be able to point you in the right direction.

I removed my helm seat over the winter for more room and to remove the storage compartment to run wires through the gunnel to the helm, but also to free up the helm seat pedestal, which would not rotate, or slide forward or back. I only removed the 4 screws that secure the seat to the pedestal then decided to call the manufacturer for advice on freeing up the pedestal, which is made by Garelick.
They told me to Not take it apart because it’s difficult to reassemble. I suggest you call Garelick, which appears to be Attwood: https://www.attwoodmarine.com/garelick/
