Alarm sound

I see people asking how to delete the alarm sound that indicates a problem code. I can tell exactly how to do this (on a SeaRay 260 Sundeck anyway). Some might say I should not do this because an engine can be ruined if the oil pressure goes down or the temp is too high etc and the driver will not know. Let me know if it would be desirable to show how to do this. (I just did mine) I will be watching my oil pressure and engine temp manually with the smart gauge. Only takes 15 seconds to disable the speaker.
Welcome aboard CSR but please do not post this poor advise.
Do you also think it's ok to keep driving your car with the check engine light on?

Once again, welcome aboard. This may be one of the few time when a boat IS like a car.
If the check engine light is on in your car or the boat is alarming and setting a code, it's not "running fine" no matter how good it feels or how well you think it runs.
I hope you can find somebody to properly diagnose it for you because chances are high that it will have adverse effects on your engine if you continue to run it that way if it hasn't already.
Keep in mind, that in rare cases, it is as simple as a ECM update.
You should also complete your member profile so we know the waters you run the boat in and if someone nearby can help.

Wonder if old gas could be the cause now. Had an operation in 2020 and did not use it at all. Only used it once in 2021. Only has 221 hours on it. I have it in my driveway now doing cleanup. Oil pressure showing 48/49, engine temp 152 when warmed up on ears. Idles and runs very smooth. Took it out a couple of weeks ago ago for the first time in 2022, seems to run well even on the old gas I am trying to use up. Have had techs with Mercruiser scan tools not find anything wrong. Just did a tuneup with new plugs and wires. Said he thinks the problem was one of the wires, but the alarm came back after he cleared the code. Seems like it can't be too far out of tune if it runs to the "redline" Probably hit 5000 rpm if I hold it and trim a little more. I am usually a slowpoke driver though.
A couple of suggestions -
Does your boat have the catalyst system? If so check all of the O2 and temperature sensors.
If the risers have never been changed and leak and water gets on the O2 sensors all kinds of weird things will happen.
Have the spark plugs been changed?
Have the spark plug wires been changed?
You might consider buying one of the RINDA diagnostic tools to be active on the boat when the code hits.

Yes, plugs and wires changed. Ran great before and after. I liked the way the mechanic left the old wires and plugs to show he changed them. Yes, has catalyst system. Risers not changed with 221 hours in fresh water.

If you have a catalyst system then I would be concerned about an alarm. Depending on what strategy the manufacture is using to detect missfire you need to dig deeper. Either O2 sensors (my guess is these) or temp probes would be where I would be looking for data to show where your issue is. Your mechanic might not be able to see this in your driveway with no load on the engine. Not sure what his diagnostic can look at but I would want to look at O2's under load and cat temps if they have probes. Also you are correct your old fuel does not help the situation all things considered. But one thing for sure I would not ignore it....Catalysts are expensive if you have a misfire you are shortening its life.

Can someone tell me why there are CC on an engine that discharges under water? Did the fish have a spike in gill cancer?
Can you get fined for removing like on a car?
Do you have to get bi-yearly emission inspections?
Does some guy SCUBA under the boat to stick a sensor up the exhaust?
Curious minds want to know.

I went catless on my 08 BMW N54 335i coupe, best thing I ever did for improving horsepower and performance.

I know what you mean. I took the cats off of a Toyota Sequoia some years ago and it really seemed like it had more power. Sometimes you wonder if it is your imagination, but no, there was a definite increase in how fast it could build rpm with the free flowing exhaust.
