You diesel guys sure aren't kicking our butts quite as badly this year

That's not true. I fill up directly by fuel truck at my marina in Suffolk County, NY. It's usually dependent on the County Fire Marshall, or equivalent, rules and political persuasion.

Brian - Who do you use? My buddy in the slip next to me has been considering having fuel delivered and asked me if I'm interested. Isn't what your getting the same #2 home heating fuel? Any repercussions from the use of it and do you use any additive with it?

oh that makes more sense. It might just be the local guys had no interest or didn’t want to deal with the hassle and used it as an excuse

$7 diesel is going to hurt.

Is the #2 heating oil from a truck significantly less expensive??

I typically save about $.80gal filling off a truck with home heating oil over filling up at the fuel dock. That has been in the past. I am not sure what it will look like this year as I still have 400gal of cheap diesel on board.
The other advantage to getting fuel from the truck is my wife typically meets the driver on Thursday mornings to fuel up so there is no wasted time on the weekends fighting the crowds at the fuel dock getting fuel.
I use Franks fuel additive recommendations every time I take on fuel and my filters look brand new after a season with 120hrs on them.

I just paid $5.55 a gal yesterday in Ft. Lauderdale for 100 gal delivered. In Dec, I paid $2.68, 2 years ago, $1.49.

What I don't understand is that now off-road diesel is almost the same cost as the gas station, and $1 more then reg gas. It was never like this. Off road diesel seems to be getting hit the hardest. Anyone have any insight? Are we just getting gouged?

I was going to ask about the difference in Cetane between the heating oil and diesel. Isn't there a viscosity also?

Saw this today, ironically.

I have been told by the guy I buy from that it’s exactly the same as what we get from the marina, just red dye added. Even with valve tech brand they add the additives on site. They get the same diesel as the non-valve tech marinas. The red diesel doesn’t have any additives obviously so that’s why I follow Frank’s schedule. It cost me about $60 an additive‘s per Fill up And I usually take on 400 gallons when I’m filling up. The more fuel I take on at a fill up the better price per gallon I get.

I do the same, treat the fuel even when its valvtec. I've watched them dump the valvtec cocktail into the tank, to say its a loose measurement would be an understatement.

There's some amount of redundancy in my treatment but I'd rather have more than not enough

Diesel on lake at Lake Powell is 810 a gallon. $3,240 to fill it.

I went through 3600 gallons last year. Won't be doing that this year.

How the heck did you do that on a lake? I got a whole fricken ocean and only managed a third of that. But then pods are more fuel efficient...

Went past local station last night and regular was 4.29 and diesel was 5.99. I'd imagine regular ethanol free on the river will be about 5.50 this summer. We don't have any diesel around us on the river
