Spring Buff - product change

this leaves no doubt as to what it is, and when it is to be used:

Ya but the damn stuff doesn’t want to come off. I have never worked with a more pain in the ass wax in my life.

I don't disagree... but, to my eye, the hydrophobic properties outlast others by a wide margin.

My shoulders hurt like hell though

Haha I had the same thoughts on the names.

@Geowh I haven't seen anyone talk about this as much as you without starting on their boat. Order it up and wheel it out...
I know-I appreciate everyone's input. I'm sure I'm over analyzing this! Normally I'd already been done but my marina can't launch me till late May(long story) Thought I was switching to Presta this year then I saw all these posts about Starke and Smoove and others...Starke seems to be THE choice this year but, loke you said, seems like a lot of steps. Just trying to compound, polish and wax/seal a very slightly oxidized boat in as few steps as possible with my Dewalt rotary. (I think you used Smoove ProCut and Bubble Gum with a rotary?) Thanks again

Question: when you hear buff and wax what do you think that means? There's a local guy who buffs and waxes the boats at my marina, gave me a quote, but hasn't answered my question what that means.

probably a medium cut followed by a finish wax/sealant of some kind. That usually means the gelcoat isn't in bad shape and doesn't require a deep cut

Pro-Cut / Bubble Gum would be perfect, with a rotary. If it's not bad, you may be able to get away with Bubble Gum alone...

Information on side of bottle says Cleaner/Wax also not to apply in direct sunlight? Did you ever apply outside? Have you done the Pro-Cut - Bubble Gum - White Cloud?

Yep, applied on a mostly cloudy day before my launch. You don't want the boat to be hot when you apply it.

I've been using either blue ice or white cloud to top and only one small section got pro cut. Bubble Gum on everything.

Spoke to rep on phone. He said that Pro Cut and Bubble gum are actually two separate one-step applications depending on the condition of your boat. If oxidized use Pro-cut then White Cloud Wax. If boat is in good shape then use Bubble Gum and White Cloud. Now I understand the skepticism when I read the threads. He said both products have diminishing abrasives and would polish down leaving no swirl marks. Find that hard to believe. I hate to ask but did you use Pro-Cut or Bubble gum, or did you do both? I think you said you've used it a couple years now, what do you think? If your familiar with Shurhold this Pro-cut and white cloud sounds a lot like the Buff Magic and Pro-Polish. Why did you switch from Presta?

I’m going to save you some time. All this bullshizzle bubble gum Is nonsense. Ingredients: Compound. -3m super duty , only if you need it. Next. 3m finesse it with a yellow 3m pad on your dewalt. Polish it I. And polish it off. Spur the pad with a spur tool to clean. If you want to seal it, meguiars mirror glaze 9 , on and off with. A 3m yellow pad. Final step, two coats of fleet wax. Applied by hand taken off by microfiber towel. Read this article I found years ago, it still works. Bubble gum , elevate , blah blah blah. https://www.sailnet.com/threads/tips-for-compound-polish-wax.52772/ It really is intuitive.

With all due respect @kvduff , have you tried these other products to compare results.
Stop by and you can have my finesse it. I thought it was the worst I tried...
To each their own but without firsthand knowledge, it's a bit presumptuous to dismiss other, well used and well regarded, products.

I haven’t tried the others, but this has been an on going debate. At some point pulling the trigger has to happen.
I was trying to covey that if you are debating and not sure of the process. , the one I prescribed will get you somewhere close to where we you want to be.

I would venture to say, all of what has been posted will work with some degree of success.
I do agree at some point the OP needs to pull the trigger and get polishing.

I took issue with you bashing products you have no knowledge of.

Noted :)

I'm paying the local guy who does some of the boats at the marina $850 to do the 380. He washes it with smoove, then compounds it with some other smoove product then uses meguiar's flagship. Does it with the boat in the water using a canoe. Sounds good to me, don't care if mine is the shiniest one in Marina as long as it's protected.
