Spring Buff - product change

For the first time, I am letting someone else do mine. Scheduled for 5/15. I will keep the topside up, but not dealing with the hull sides. It will be done while in the water which is a very common practice here.

I love these threads but the problem is the end of season results. All these products make it shine great before splash and everyone posts their mirror pics but never do you see the end of season pic to see how it held up.
That’s because most people use “boat soap” which is mostly crap that strips wax. If you boat in the latitudes of the Great Lakes your wax should last the entire season and your boat will look greate when you put it away in the fall if you wash it properly.

What made you switch to Starke from Smooth? What type of machine did you use? Can't tell in the picture if that's a rotary or random orbital. You mentioned that you used pads and foam? 3"??

Yes I have. I used it in some areas but didn’t have a noticable enough of a difference in the direct light or with a good LED light to go through the effort. I am pretty good with a rotary and always keep a clean pad, you would be hard pressed to find swirls anywhere.

Ignition really makes a colored hull pop though.

You’re absolutely right about any product that has a cut and finish in one. It won’t last. Those are great products for cleaning up scuffs and minor corrections in the middle of the season.

I’ve owned a marine detailing business for a very long time. My fiancé now runs, manages, and does the work for that company. We have tried EVERYTHING.
Do you only use Elevate now? (vs Elevate and Ignition) Do you do a two step process with Elevate- white wool followed by yellow? What's your pads and process?

I didn't switch - I have been using Smoove for a few years now and bought some Starke to help with an area of oxidation I was trying to clean up. Starke didn't deliver in time...so I used Smoove, with a new 3" rotary I picked up. As you can see above, it did great...

http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/spring-buff-product-change.107865/page-6#post-1319073 has links to the polisher and the pads I bought...

I haven't even opened up the $250 box of Starke that came in yet...

Sheesh, for that kind of money a little dude better jump out of the box and at least get started on polishing the transom for you!

And that was with 15% off...

But what's funny is, if you go back to the OP...he was going to try Smoove.

That was me and because I’m a crazy person maybe next year I will:)

Careful... @Blueone will call you on it! I think you should stick with Starke! Need anymore :D

In all seriousness though, I'm of the belief the guys washing my boat washed away the wax protection...it's all on me this season....we will see how long that lasts though!
