Boat detailer

Here's the company I used to use for my bi weekly wash. Key word being used to.

What kind of wash do you think people will get when they're paying these rates?

Boat detailing companies in the Port Clinton Ohio area are looking to hire detailers. They will pay $20 an hour. Problem who in todays society will bust their ass for $20 an hour.

I’m a small business owner with two locations and can completely relate to this.

Then I shake my head when people say this and then complain about the price in the same breath.

Lol, I was on the Whopper Board! Fastest Whopper maker in the store.
Steam box for the patties…… so gross. Fries was the worst job in the store….. I also got picked to clean the grease trap when I worked close…… awful disgusting job

lots of stories working there but one good one was I was taking out milk crates to the garbage area….. I had six stacked up …finely got thru the back door….stacked them up and started walking to the back of the parking lot…… all of a sudden I heard this ruckus …..this guy comes flying over those cement garbage cans hit the ground got up and runs right into me….I was pissed and grabbed the guy he just knocked my crates all over the place…… I held him for like seconds…..then we both get tackled by two cops….. it’s like wtf is happening….. he had just robbed the Dairy Queen next door….and the cops were chasing him across the parking lots…. I caught my first robber :)

This could easily turn into a "what crappy jobs did YOU have" thread ...

I think most of us can relate. I was working at Honey Baked Ham wrapping hams for $5/hr before I could even drive. I had 100 paper cuts on each hand. I did eat a ton of ham though :p

I like to detail my own boat but there's no way I could do it all day every day. For that I prefer to stare at a screen and punch keys for 80 hrs a week

If the market doesn't stabilize I may have to apply at BK. Would it be ok if I used you gys as a reference.

Minimum wage, unskilled, laborer in residential construction. I dug foundations using a hand shovel so the footings could be poured and the block could be laid. Hard, hot, slow, back breaking work.

Our Yacht club hired a busser at $16 to start. A week later he said $18 or I’m leaving. Commodore said that she would check with board but before she could, the kid called back and said a restaurant had offered $22 and he was gone…

I’m hiring a machine operator on Monday. Plant manager said what are we thinking of paying?…. I said I have no idea. Let’s try to figure our what we can get away with. Usually that job is $18 and that’s high. So interested to see

Detail related- what bothers me about most detailers is they use whatever product is cheapest, reuse worn out pads and never really do the job as well as some of the guys on here could. Also hire unskilled kids, etc.
Sadly, for many of us, the body just will not take the pounding that it nice could.

Strictly operator, no programing, plus benefits,?, indiana. imo that’s pretty good. Where do I apply? :)

where I’m at, just a load, unload, push button machine operator is running $14-15. Labor is getting tough.

Plus full benefits…. Strictly load unload button pusher…. And shop is in Michigan… tough market here

Here’s the problem today. I have a friend’s kid who’s kinda trying to find himself. I have basic shipping, receiving jobs. Hire HS kids around 10-12 per hr. Now probably 12-14 per hour. Beer money. Good consistent flexible work which allows them to take classes, etc. Kid won’t consider it because he can make $20 doing grub hub or something. Problem is, it’s only 2-3 hrs per day. Can’t. See the bigger picture.

Ya, tell me about it. I quit one detailer because he jacked up his rate. He said 'it's about what everyone is charging now', so he wanted more for his crappy results.

Then I heard about a guy, 'he's the best but expensive'... a 100 bucks an hour. OK man do your thing. I popped in to see how things were going and he wasn't even working on my boat. He had two young people on my boat, one was a gal that had never buffed/waxed a boat in her life...so I got another crappy job along with some argument when we settled up.

So last year I figured 'screw 'em all', I'll do it myself. Quite the attitude from a guy that uses a cane most the time, can't kneel so sits on his ass and scoots. I got lucky and found a really good kid for a helper. I about wore myself out, lost 20+ pounds doing my boat...but it looked the best it ever has.

Problem is that this year my helper isn't available and I don't think I have it in me to tackle the job again...maybe I can but I don't want to.
