Thanks for your input. Yes, pump appears ok, or at least everything worked ok when the tabs were the standard size. Issue of blow back only occurred once the tab sizes were increased.

There may be an issue of internal leakage but I am not 100%.

I was wondering if a bigger pump may fix the issue. Or do our boats already have the biggest?

You may be onto something with the poppets. Perhaps I should buy a new pump and see how it goes. If no good then go for the dual option…

// edited to add: a friend with a Maritimo 48 apparently has a similar blow back issue which is strange for a production boat with no modifications//
I wouldn't spend the money on a new pump. Rather, remove the solenoid valves and check them out; it's a ten minute job. Parts from Bennitt for the pump are not expensive at all. Quite possibly some contamination got into the system when the second actuators were added and causing the solenoid seats to not seal. Double check there is oil in the hydraulic unit when the tabs are fully deployed; if it is running dry, air will get into the system and the tabs will move with the water flow across them. FYI if the tab actuators leak, they will leak into the water and you will notice in the fluid level dropping in the HPU. Here is a video I found on the solenoid servicing -

Is anyone here using drop fins on the their trim tabs and if so have you noticed a difference.
I know when I run full tab down at cruise I gain mph and reduce gph and wonder I could get a bit more out of it

Great advice and great video - thanks tt. I’m thinking I’ll purchase and plug in a new hydraulic motor and see where it takes me. Not very smart I know, but why change now …

I’m on it NCR - You name it, and I’ve tried it... Not being correctly trimmed is a pet peeve of mine..

Did you add drop fins or did you add larger or a second set of tabs?
Did you run it with the drop fins and did it make a difference in dropping the bow down

I have bigger tabs with drop fin’s. Made a big difference when down fully for the initial run up onto the plane. it’s now a matter of getting the extra power to operate them throughout their range at any speed.

Edit to add: I initially tried standard size tabs with drop fins but no change. That’s why I decided to go bigger.

Here is the final part of the project except the depth sounder as it requires some funky cable routing. I guess it goes along the Starboard side and down behind the TV and stereo area with the HVAC tubes.

Here is a shot from a little further back:

Pretty happy with the black starboard for the panels.

I would like to cover the switch panels with 3M vinyl but not interested in removing all of the switches for that.

Cheers!

Previous owner (LG111) added the wheel...dunno where it was from. The helm feels very nice with the Garmin upgrades.

I have a couple of dash panels and the Raymarine units I am going to sell.

Cheers!

Looks great! That windshield with the wiper is also a pretty nice upgrade.Have been caught in some downpours where that would have been nice to have. Do you mind posting a few pics of that when you get a chance?

I did something similar but with Raymarine. Finally commissioned last Wednesday.

While working on the boat yesterday I did notice a lot of boats our size have larger tabs and some have more or larger cylinders. Some of the tab setups have the cylinders at much more of an angle than ours.

Irie308: Sure, I can take some pictures. It really is a nice upgrade.

Looks really good AEO!

Heading out today for more fun goodies. I will post up when installed!

Cheers!

We had our USCG inspection yesterday. They found a few things.

Where are the Hull Numbers displayed in the engine room? Or elsewhere inside the boat?

In the small hatch at the foot of the helm, there used to be the laminated navigation rules. Anyone know if they are available from West Marine or Amazon or where ever? There are several on Amazon and I want to get the right one. I remember the cards from the 380 Sundancer.

Thanks!

Nothing in the ER, eh?

I have a picture of the ones on the swimstep from when we pulled the boat for the survey.

Not sure if the USCG needs it inside the ER.

Cheers!

If you have a documented boat, the CG numbers are supposed to be displayed in the ER. State registration numbers go on the forward hull.

When you say it’s a matter of getting extra power to operate them what did you mean?
I ask because I’m getting ready to increase size if my tabs by attaching larger plates to my factory tabs. They will be 2” wider (side to side)and 3 1/2” longer, or 26” x 15 1/2”. They have 2” drop fins. Another member said they made same size add on plate and still worked with the original single cylinder.

When underway the tabs won’t go down past 50% - If you put them full down they will stay there but the problem arises once you start operating them. I added an extra ram but same result so we are looking at increasing the power. Bigger pump perhaps? Someone mentioned a second pump but in hindsight that does sound a little weird.

I have the Bennett automatic levelling system with indicators.

Bennett say rule of thumb is 1” width for each foot of boat but as you can see from the pic there isn’t a lot of room. They say it’s better to be wider than longer because the water escapes (the fins may help there).

Please let me know your thoughts and advice as I’m really at a loss to know where to go from here ….

Looking at my photo above, do you think your tabs are similar width to mine? I’ve reached out to Bennett and they are asking for the dimensions of my tabs which I don’t have and boat is back in the water ..

Edit to add: My tabs extend from inbd of the chine to otbd of the prop pocket
