You are gonna have to unlace the canvas first, then you will have enough slack to unzip it from the arch. I just did this a few days ago. I haven’t laced it back up yet. I have a feeling I’m gonna need a longer lace. Does anyone know what type of lace it is and where to buy?

Ah...So is it laced at the top of the eyebrow? I just see snaps but they may be simply covering the lacing. I could imagine that. The canvas is seriously tight!

Thanks!

It zips and snaps to the arch and is laced to the aluminum tubing that goes around the outside perimeter. I unlaced maybe 6’ of it in order to be able to unzip and unsnap from the arch. Very easy to relace and retie it.

Oh, thanks Bennett. I will look when I get down there in a while.

I was looking up in the area between the aluminum tubing and wondering if some closed cell insulation would be of any benefit. I think 1 1/2 inch would fit. That area gets hot....even in our cool Northwest spring.

Cheers!

You should be able to unzip the individual panels which will make it easier to unsnap the bottoms. You will have to unlace the top to peel it back to get to the radar. Its a royal PIA. When lacing it back up i found its a two man job done on a warm day. Lace them up the best you can let it sit and stretch then go back at it to tighten things up.

I completely removed the glass panels on the port side that I unlaced. Unzip the vertical zippers, remove the snaps, and then unzip the horizontal zippers at the top and remove the two panels and set aside. Untie the lacing for the bimini and then unzip/unsnap from the arch and had plenty of access. I took a pic of the lacing configuration and mine was not hard at all.

I just relaced my aft section. I had to take the piece out of the track to replace the zippers to match the new enclosure.
It wasn’t bad nothing moved, maybe because it wasn’t that warm that day. Just need a warm day to put the new snaps in.

it seems to me when the canvas is wet its easier to stretch, snap, and zip everything by far.

I was able to get the canvas pulled back just as Bennett suggested. Thanks!

I got the old unit out. I had no idea it was this heavy. I ended up cutting the cable and using it to lower it down. In the picture, it is hanging on the wire:

I got the new dome in and all of the wires pulled. The canvas was really tight getting it back on. Had to play with the sequence of snaps and zippers

Tomorrow I have to put panels back on and get the 1242xsv in the new panel I cut out.

Cheers!!

Does anyone have a picture of a bow Sunpad that the can post? I’m thinking of having one made. I’m guessing it would require a flap of some sort for the hatch.

Not my boat but came across this one in or travels. Really like how it was constructed. When we are ready will have one similar made.

Would like to pick all of your brains on an issue I’m having. Since moving my transom module aft and installing teak I really need my tabs to be more effective.

so far I’ve increased their surface area but they kept retracting at higher speeds. So I added a second ram but same thing happens. If you put them in fully and leave them there she travels perfectly. But once moved away from max down when man or auto levelling you won’t get them past halfway .

Latest suggestion is a second motor/pump - one for each pair of rams on each tab …. Am I wasting time or should I try this one last thing?

Edited to add - I’ve added the 400 lbs of lead under the guest bed.

Lots invested including Bennett auto levelling system so parting with a few extra dollars won’t be a show stopper …

Did you checkout the pump? Sometimes the solenoid valves in the pump will leak due to trash on the poppet seal or the solenoid seal has failed and the tabs will leak back. Easy to service; they are right under the plastic cover on the pump unit. Adding the second actuator essentially doubles the hydraulic power at the same hydraulic pressure; but also consumes double the hydraulic fluid. Are you running the HPU dry? It seems to me you may have a couple of things going on but both with the hydraulic pump assembly.

Thanks for your input. Yes, pump appears ok, or at least everything worked ok when the tabs were the standard size. Issue of blow back only occurred once the tab sizes were increased.

There may be an issue of internal leakage but I am not 100%.

I was wondering if a bigger pump may fix the issue. Or do our boats already have the biggest?

You may be onto something with the poppets. Perhaps I should buy a new pump and see how it goes. If no good then go for the dual option…

// edited to add: a friend with a Maritimo 48 apparently has a similar blow back issue which is strange for a production boat with no modifications//
