The 2022 springtime Shine Thread

Overall the blue was in pretty good shape…. I had a 5’ spot with a bit of oxidation on both sides….. which is odd since only one side got sun.
So used what was left of the cut max on one side…. really like that stuff ….. the other side I used the 3M compound. 3M pad at 1,400 on the dewalt rotary for both sides. I used one side of pad for one side…. Other side of pad for the other. Usually I use one pad both sides for one side and then get another pad.
Like I said earlier I didn’t polish …. I used the porter cable orbital on 3.5 to wax …. Use micro fiber rag to remove

It looks great! I have a section of blue above the rub rail, sun side that keeps coming back. I'm convinced they were using too harsh a soap on her last season and washed the wax off. It's all gone now except that small line along the rub rail where it's angled. I may just need a small rotary to get that spot cleaned up... then buy a foam cannon and just wash her myself.

Old pic.... looks great now aside from that curve next to the rub rail.

I use the edge of the pad in that situation ….. but might have to wet sand then use the edge …. Lots of product

You may be right. I haven't wetsanded yet. Keeps coming back so I bet that's what I need to do.

There is no shortcut for this, time and many passes over each section brings it back but good lord does it take forever. This is with two passes of heavy cut followed by two polish. You can see some dry spots where the gelcoat absorbed the polish material

I had all intentions of getting it buffed again like I usually do, however, the detailer had two diesel engine failures on his company trucks. They both were getting engines at the same time and he stated it would be 3-6 weeks before he could evaluate where things would be. First time in 7 years of business for him that something of this magnitude has happened.

After washing things up, I'm having second thoughts. It's looking pretty decent. Not bad for a 25 year old boat?!

Okay I am not bragging or anything…. But I might be a closet professional boat polisher :)

Looks great Blue.
I finished polishing the port side this afternoon.

I think by the end of the weekend I will have everything below the rub rail polished and 2 coats of wax.
At least, that's the goal...

Preferred method is to pay someone. The problem is nobody is more particular about my boat than me. Everytime ive paid to have it done, three different companies, im less than satisfied.

I agree
Have used a few different companies around here recommended by friends and dock neighbors and have never been satisfied.

Registration on that vessel says otherwise. :p
Hey …. I didn’t say you had to give up the past…. completely. Keeps people confused
My dinghy has Ohio regs, boat Michigan, boat usually has a Canada flag on bow and my cars have Indiana plates…. My new marina last year in Ohio …a dock neighbor stops as I am washing the boat and rambles off that list and says what’s going on here…. Some kind of witness protection mess and keeps on walking

I am sooo confused tracking all these products: Bubble Gum, Smoove, Stark, 3M, 2M, Amen, Groove, Twist, Shout, Finesse, Fitness, Wool, Foam, Super Cut, Paper Cut, White Cloud, Black Cloud Lives Matter, Spurs, Rejex, Reject, Presta, Pasta, white or red sauce...

I am paying someone again this year and will have no idea what they use :)
Too funny

I love this thread because it’s a group of lunatics like myself. I look around the boat yard and most boats get the wrap pulled and into the water the same day. Not a drop of compound or wax in sight
I know right? At least wipe off last years diesel soot off the stern before splash day lol

. It’s a tool to catch fish,
The tool has two 350’s hanging off the back….. expensive tool

I always wonder if these guys divide the cost of boat ownership by per pound of fish.
I had an incredible fresh perch lunch today for $12.00… including Coleslaw :)
So one engine would be 2,916 perch lunches…. Why not just marry a woman you want to be with :)
