Should you buy a gun or not?

You don't understand...it's the noise made when racking the slide that scares the bad guys;)

Unless they're hard of hearing and shoot you first.

I always carry with one in the chamber, regardless of whether or not it has a safety, which not all of my pistols have.

I hope I never have to draw on someone, let alone fire a shot at someone. But, if I do, I will have had enough range time to shoot effectively and confidently.

Would you draw on someone and not fire on them? I don't think that's generally the type of firearms/self-defense training one would receive when getting a concealed carry license?

I agree with the first point, but disagree on the second. You can rack a slide single handed if you practice by snagging the rear sight on the holster, belt or belt buckle, etc and just push away. If you have a red dot mounted it’s even easier, there’s enough to jamb against your body. These are basic defensive skills for dealing with an incapacitated hand or arm.

If your sites have that ability. Not all do. Some are ramp style. But yes train for all possible situations.

I always carry with one in the tube. My carry gun has a safety. And that's how I train. There is no lost time hitting the safety during the draw stroke. My others do not have safeties. And I'm fine using those as carry weapons too.

Funny when I shoot competitions, my thumb automatically is swiping a safety when I draw from the holster. Whether the gun I'm shooting has one or not. Just training. And this probably comes from upland and duck hunting many years back. It's just part of the process.

I shot in PPC competition for many years, was a firearms instructor and defensive tactics instructor and will be the first to attest to the fact that when the feathers hit the fan you will react with your memory muscles that have developed from your training. FYI, I typically fired about 10,000-15,000 rounds a year between teaching, practicing and competition. Fortunately it was all paid for by the taxpayers.

The guy I shot had fired a shotgun round at me from 41 feet away. I fired one round back at him, didn't use my sights, and hit him right where I was looking. Why didn't he hit me? I knew the difference between cover and concealment. Training pays off.

Have I ever drawn my weapon or shot someone? The two questions are the same in my book. You don’t draw unless you plan to use it. You don’t even reach unless you have thought that action thru.

These are my feelings on this matter, you must form your own and be settled in your mind with your action and it’s contagiousness’s

Remember, you are solely responsible for that round no matter where it goes.

That is absolutely right. When I took the first class I listed I used one of the Smith PC 1911s that have a Novack style rear sight and learned that first hand.

So here's a question. The news is filled with reports of crime in our cities. People getting car jacked in the "nice" neigborhoods. Robbed and shot on the subway. Etc. Etc. Why the hell aren't some of these thugs getting popped?

They are in Philadelphia.

"For at least the fourth time this month, an armed citizen in Philadelphia has been able to defend themselves from a carjacker on city streets."

Might I offer a thought? Those crimes are often/mostly happening in democraticly controlled cities where the rights of the citizens to own personal firearms for their personal protection are sharply curtailed. Therefore, if a smaller percentage of the population can legally carry a gun, could that mean that there are fewer guns in the hands of law abiding citizens and therefore the criminals feel more empowered?

IDK about that. Here in Chicago concealed carry has been good since 2013. Most of their gun ordinances have been shot down by the courts. However I will grant you that the population leans liberal and probably doesn’t see the “need” for guns.

It’s all about the location or the neighborhood. Rich left leaning white folk neighborhoods riddled with guilt, or inner cities, are the prime areas to be a victim. This crap doesn’t happen in constitutional carry areas.

That's what I mean. If just a few got popped, this crap would stop and the risk v reward calculation changes.

Tim, to answer your question....no. But the word of a few of them getting capped would spread and might get them to think twice. Then they would go out and do their robbery.

I can just imagine their conversation would go something like this:

"Man, Jose getting his ass shot really sucks."
"Yeah. He was a cool dude."
"Now let's go shoot sum fugger to make it right."
