I only ask out of pure laziness. Local boat delivery from NY to NJ?

John,

Had the boat passed muster, I would have run her from Long Island down to Brick NJ for transport.

Here's two captains who came highly recommended:

Cap Rob Lewis 914-489-4848

Cap Harry Vliett 732-773-9681

Should you make this run you'll have views of the HELLGATE BRIDGE, ROOSEVELT ISLAND, The UNITED NATIONS, The STATUE OF LIBERTY and the VERATZANO NARROWS BRIDGE

I was really looking forward to this trip before that 450 DA failed the survey with a very wet transom, wet port side and wet bow as well.

Ya damn well better share these photo ops with all of us here at CSR since I didn't get to do so !!!

YA BETCHA'

BEST !

Not from the south shore. No hellgate, no UN, no Roosevelt Island., no liberty Island, no verrazano unless you make a wrong turn

Just a straight shot out jones or fire Island inlet

Should be a relatively uneventful trip. Out of the inlet and set a course for Cape May. Could hug the coast which would add a little more time and fuel. Stop at Cape May for fuel and then it's a short 60 mile trip up the Delaware Bay to the C&D Canal.

Looks like about 200 miles with the only no wake zone being a brief stretch in the Cape May Canal.

My boat trip on the Delaware Bay when we went from Washington DC to New York City was not quick and not uneventful. I recall taking a good beating on the bay. Ran into lots of fog as well, especially in Cape May.

Years ago I made the trip from C&D Canal to Indian River Inlet which was then my home marina. Was early July and I figured it was pointless to check the weather because it's July and the weather is always awesome. Had my almost completely redone 31 Bertram and typically cruised at 26knts. What should have been about a 3hr ride turned into 8 with a much needed stop in Lewes for a break. The Delaware Bay had standing 6 footers from pretty much the mouth of the C&D all the way to Lewes with them hitting me smack in the bow thanks to the lovely combination of the tide and winds. Once out of Lewes the seas changed a bit but the ocean was snotty as well. I do remember seeing but one other boat out there the entire day.

Ah, fun times indeed.

That's what I remember. I've had a couple pointless to check the weather trips myself.

What marina are you at on Guntersville?

Goose Pond Colony Marina
Temporary end tie for a few weeks.
Got moved into a covered slip last Saturday.

That boat was near Huntington, on the inside.

Made more sense for us to take that route, and safer too with an unknown.

Delaware Bay was the worst part of my trip home from Charleston last year. Bow waves were landing aft of the stern.

You made a trip from DC to NYC and asking for advice front Kent Island to Potomac? Hell man, you are a seasoned blue water boater. You know more than most of us.

"Should be an uneventful trip"....words that should never be uttered by a captain out loud. Any captain you hire should be based on the South Shore of Long Island, preferably out of Lindenhurst, but not required. I know of two that do yacht deliveries FL to NY and NY to FL 10-12 times a year. The toughest part of your trip will be getting to Fire Island Inlet, getting into and out of whatever inlet you choose to get fuel and then getting into and through the C&D Canal. The rest of it is a straight line auto-pilot. I've done the south shore of LI to Atlantic City single handed (confluence of events including tides and timing that left me crew less). In good weather it's a piece of cake. IIRC, from AC head buoy to FI head buoy it was about 2 1/2 hours. From Lindenhurst you will need to get to the State Channel and then FI Inlet. The Great South Bay is very shallow outside of fairly narrow channels and though it's well marked it's still a challenge to navigate to the inlet. Lindenhurst is about the worst place the boat could be on the GSB. FI Inlet is a constantly shifting and shoaling transit as well. LOCAL KNOWLEDGE is required for a boat that size. My 58DB is wintered in Lindenhurst and every spring is a challenge in getting it east, there's just no water in the bay until mid-May. PM me if you want contact info. Good luck.

I too am at Goose Pond. I keep my 250 down on Dock 1, with the smaller boats.

It would be nice to meet you around the marina sometime. Maybe a meal at the restaurant when it opens up for the season.

I don’t know if you are new to the area or how often you are around, but If you ever need anything let me know.

Mitch - how is mwph? we met him at Goose Pond one trip - haven't seen him here for a while...

I still visit CSR every so often.

Still playing Dock Master down on dock 1 at Goose Pond.

Hopefully you haven’t slipped in and out of G.P. without me knowing. Last time I saw you guys I promised y’all dinner at the marina restaurant…..it’s the season!

Stay safe,

Michael

Thanks Micheal!

Glad to know you are doing well! Hope we get there this summer! Brett Hartley (@Brett H) is staying there for a while with his former Lake Lanier boat. He came up the TennTom from Gulf Shores recently...

We are out near the end of Dock 2 (slip 22) facing Dock 1. We are there most weekends. Spent the last two weekends getting settled (lines, 2 cleats, ran DirecTV cable & mounted antenna, water hose) into the new slip, then on Sunday went out and spent part of the day on the hook at Jones Creek. Drop by any time you see activity. BTW, the restaurant (The Docks) is open, we had dinner there last Saturday night.
