Does your marina offer a refund on your slip contract?

I kept my last 2 boats in a boatel. I sold them before my 12 month contract ended. The marina voluntarily offered me a refund for the remaining contract both times. Prior to these 2 boats I received a refund from the marina for all of the boats I sold. Or in some cases decided to move to another marina. I never asked, they sent me a check.

While shopping for a slip for the new to me 380 ALL marinas are telling me "no refunds". I am not even asking. They are all saying "April to March" as well for the annual contract. This feels like a change to me. Which means if I sell the boat, or decide I want to go to another marina, I will lose money. For the later I will pay double slip rent.

Curious to hear what your experience has been.

Thanks

Why can't we "sell" our balance of months to a new slip holder? Otherwise the marina is double dipping, right?

I guess what is in your contract applies. Most are pretty much to the point, at least mine is.:)

Agreed, it seems they were more flexible in the past though, thus the reason for my post. I am not debating their contracts, complaining, b&*$tching, etc. simply wondering if this is a recent change as I was out of boating for almost 3 years.

I don’t ever (or often) take the marina's side, but from their perspective they have a hole in the water that they really can’t rent out. Most have their slips by then. Marinas always tilt toward the house.

My marina was on a 12 month contract (Jan-Dec) and we paid by the month. When I sold the boat the contract ended in July so no pmts after that.

So, in theory, you got a refund. I wish more marinas would do this and understand owners may sell their boat, may have to move it for some reason, etc. You know they are re-renting that slip as soon as you go, as soon as they can. Thus double dipping.

At a minimum you'd think they could said "if we re-rent the slip right away we will give you a refund, otherwise you are "on the hook" until we do".

If it isn’t spelled out in the contract it should be. You can’t expect a refund just because

Blue, true statement. It pays to read ANY contract you sign. When we sold our RV I was on a 1-year contract. They gave me a full refund for the unused part of the contract. Nice folks to work with.

Again I completely agree with contracts agreements and the like, I'm not debating or challenging this. This thread is not about what I expect.

I am wondering if this is more of a this is what we have to do versus this is what we really do. Meaning if I were to have to leave for some reason after 6 months they'd give me a 6 month refund. None of the previous marinas I mentioned above told me when I signed the contract they'd give me a refund, they volunteered it later. My previous experiences are just like @Gofirstclass

I'm not 100% sure about GFC's situation, but I'm at the same marina. I'm pretty sure the reason they let him out was because they have a waiting list, especially for a boat of his size.

Our marina is no refunds, we pay 50% deposit by 12/15 and balance by 4/1 for the season that runs 5/1 - 11/1.

That said there is a waiting list, so I am sure they would be happy to work something out so it doesn't sit empty, but nothing forcing them to.

We are on a 12 month contract; pay 1/2 January 1/2 July.
No refunds unless they can re-rent slip. However. Not sure what might happen if I sold boat before July 1, and didn’t pay 2nd half of year.
Family owned marina so I don’t see lawyers and lawsuits happening.

Full price up front due in Feb, for May 1 to Nov 1

Last year some of my neighbors were gone a month early, and the marina parked some people in their slips for the remaining time

The GM and his wife are great people, with a slip next to me. They asked if I was getting hauled out early too. I said hail no, I am running this boat up until the last possible day!

What happens November 1st? Have to come out? What if wanted to stay in with bubblers?
Ours is 12 month so no extra to leave in water. I do winter haul which is a separate fee.

Our slip is in a county park - it very nice and we love it. Renewal notices are sent out in December - Payment in Full for year required by end of January or you no longer have a slip. Renew and leave during the year (or downsize) - no refunds - Upgrade during the year if your boat fits in the slip size allowed you pay the difference - if it does not see previous statement. New slip holders that come in mid-year should someone leave will also pay for full year - even if they come in during October for one month. If you sell your boat new the owner also has to vacate slip. County loves to double dip.
