Angie List just don’t

It's the price of a service call $ 130 + the breaker ( pending on brand ) $ 30.00 to $ 100.00
Pretty straightforward job

I think he meant the whole panel.
It smells like it could possibly be Federal Pacific issues. My sister and everyone else in her condo cluster has to have them replaced or the insurance will not cover them past the end of this year,

Yep, We do this all the time, pretty common
We call these breakers fire starters

Spark, I take it your an electrician. Tell me, what should it cost to remove and replace a breaker box in a small one bedroom condo. Maybe 5 hours of work.
It all depends on how many breakers are in the panel, the accessibility of the panel and if it meets today's code.
In NY the panel can not be in a Bathroom, Bedroom closet or kitchen and has to have 3' working room around it, If it is in one of this rooms or does not have the 3' rule it has to be moved.
Say it meets today's codes and we just change the panel you are looking at anywhere from $ 600.00 to a $ 1,000.00 + electrical inspection if the insurance company requires it $ 200 to $ 350

My sister and BIL got ripped off by a window and door company picked up on a similar site. All the contractors were backlogged, so they found someone that wasn't busy - in this market - red flag #1. I think it was on Facebook marketplace. The way they installed their patio doors to the deck was criminal. So many things completely wrong. Then at the end, after endless calls to get them to fix things (almost 6 mos start to finish) the company offered a $1,000 discount for a 5 star rating on Google.

Owning a business I disagree with you, If I go to someone house to do anything even if it is to put one screw in the wall or I have to take a ladder off of my truck I am charging you for a service call at $ 130.00 if I am working more than a 1/2 hour the price will go up from there.
What people don't understand is if I worked at your house for a 1/2 an hour, I have to get paid for the 1/2 a hour and the traveling time to get to the job so that 1/2 a hour could be a 1 1/2 with traveling time.
Bottom line is with Gas, insurances, truck, ect I do not leave my shop for no less than a service call at the minimum of $ 130.00
I am not in business to lose money.

This is reality living on Long island...
in the last 20 years now no matter where you drive or what time you drive your going to run into traffic. than hitting three different home depots or suppliers trying to get parts

Define "Long Island"... "It's a piece of land surrounded by traffic".

I don't have a problem paying someone to do something I don't want to do. Sometimes I might think they're high priced and question it but for the most part if I think they're in the ballpark then just get it done. Problem is it seems about half the time they don't know shit about what they're doing.

Ya, get a pickup truck and some tools and you're a contractor.;)

Yes, the panel did not meet code. No 220 breakers, all 120. Maybe 5 or 6 circuits. It's 1 bedroom, 1 bath, living area and kitchen. Gas stove - only appliances are the fridge and the microwave. Maybe 600 sq feet. They has to cut some drywall for the new installation to fit (In entryway closet). Reason I ask is the bill was $6,200 and I wanted to see if that was normal and reasonable or were we ripped off.

They came for a service call because a breaker failed and my 87 year old mother lost power to half of her condo (bathroom and bedroom). The took the old panel apart, found the bad breaker, then told us that they couldn't put it back together because the panel didn't meet code. We were stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I called State Farm about my siding that blew off. 3 pieces came loose and cracked. Problem is trying to match it. So State Farm sends a guy out and quotes me $513 to replace the 3 pieces, clean up and dispose of the old material. That style of siding is about $300/sq. State Farm told me I didn't need a whole square, just 3 pieces. I asked them to give me the number for the place that sells it by the piece...no response. But for $513? Granted it would be an easy fix but fuel, labor, disposal? Either way it was less than my deductible so scrapped that whole idea

About 10 years ago, we had K guard gutters and new down spouts put on the house.
If memory serves, about 250 linear ft ~$3500.
A couple years ago we had a 3 seasons room put on and needed 36 linear feet added - two straight shots of 18 feet no downspouts - use existing.

$1400.

The only thing I said after he handed me the quote was "I'm sure you can find your way out."

OMG I see this all the time, At the absolute worst $ 2,000 I would have done it for more like $ 1,000 to $ 1,200
They definitely took advantage of the elderly, They should have there licensed removed.
Go on the internet and leave them bad reviews, I always try to help out the elderly, especially if they are living by themselves.
I get some work from the app my neighborhood, We have all good reviews.

I to was a contractor with them, I was with HomeAdvisor and they sold out to Angie…. I fired them. DO NOT USE THEM

Woody here in VA we call them Hacks..It ends up costing homeowners two to three times as much to fix their hack jobs

I just want to say, and nobody on here said it, but I ain’t incompetent to fix stuff, but I have worked hard enough and earned enough and old enough that I ain’t climbing a ladder or swinging a hammer for nothing.
Hence, I call those that do.
Same with boat. My days of down in the bilge in 90* is over. God bless you if you can, I am writing a check.

My 91yo mom lives in a small 1,000sf co-op and her boiler had to be replaced in the middle of Feb - Long Island winter. The service company we have a contract with called me the next day quoting $8,875 to replace this small gas 1 zone boiler. This company has service contracts with most of the residents in this senior housing complex and I was disgusted thinking how many of my mom’s neighbors have been taken advantage of by them!
I called a plumber that my sister used to fix a gas leak at her house and he installed a new boiler the next day for $5,400 complete. He said it was a little more than it should have been because even though it was 1 zone there were 3 inlets and outlets.
