Had a piece of alum siding blow off, laying on ground. And don’t give me shit about doing it myself, I know nothing about it.
So I reached out to 1 yes 1 private guy handyman on Angie’s List.
Fkn phone texts won’t stop. I swear some guy in Nigeria said he can fix it.
Apperantly when you post, EVERY guy that can swing a hammer gets it.
Don’t just Don’t. Ps. I got a friend fixed it today. Just don’t use Angie.

My son has a side business and uses Angie’s and just fired them

Angie’s list started in Indy. …. They were hard core smoke and mirrors. Selling to investors not customers…. I stopped following them when they morphed into what they are today….. but if my kid doesn’t like them…. Then stay away

I had a few pieces blow off a few weeks ago. Got 1 bid and waiting on another but remembered my cousin used to do siding and was good at it so he is supposed to stop over tonight to look at it. Siding cracked so I have to order more. Told him I'm gonna pay him, just hard to get bids from contractors

Sorry if I offend you, but if you have the piece, it simply snaps back in place. No tools and no knowledge needed. Easy peasy, not rocket science. I bet there is even a utube video out there. If a siding guy charges you more than 20 bucks to fix it, hes a crook.

No offense, suggestions always welcome.

I am so glad that my DNA is configured with the DIY strand! I really feel for the folks that do not have the acumen to do even the simplest of tasks. I think the only thing I don't or will not do myself on my house is servicing the AC unit but only because of the hassel in procuring the refrigerant. I never judge those that need to pay others, that's what makes the economy work after all, but to have to rely on the yellow pages or an app to get an unknown vendor to perform would just be a major PITA.

I do about 95% of my own maintenance too but in my case the pieces cracked so need to track down the matching siding and the OSB behind part of it has some rot so gonna have my cousin pull quite a few pieces down and pretty much start over and have him track down the leak that caused the rot

Just like the Better Business Bureau. If a company has an A+ rating with BBB that don’t mean shit. There’s a local company called Mad City Windows and Bath. They’re the biggest ripoff outfit there is. But they have an A+ rating with the BBB.

Owning a business I disagree with you, If I go to someone house to do anything even if it is to put one screw in the wall or I have to take a ladder off of my truck I am charging you for a service call at $ 130.00 if I am working more than a 1/2 hour the price will go up from there.
What people don't understand is if I worked at your house for a 1/2 an hour, I have to get paid for the 1/2 a hour and the traveling time to get to the job so that 1/2 a hour could be a 1 1/2 with traveling time.
Bottom line is with Gas, insurances, truck, ect I do not leave my shop for no less than a service call at the minimum of $ 130.00
I am not in business to lose money.

With do respect, if someone pays you $130 to snap a piece of siding back in place, they are a poster child for PT Barnum.

I do understand your point as you obviously fix things yourself but not everybody does.
Believe it or not I get paid all the time to go to someone's house to turn on a circuit breaker after I tell them on the phone did you check all the breakers in the panel to make sure they are on and when I get there there is one off.
Tell me how much should I charge for this $ 20 I would be out of business in a year.

How is Angie’s list still around? I avoid contractors listed there like the plague

Spark, I take it your an electrician. Tell me, what should it cost to remove and replace a breaker box in a small one bedroom condo. Maybe 5 hours of work.

If you told them to check the breakers and you get there and find one still off - charge them double! :D
I do appreciate someone who says "here are the simple things you can look for first"

It's not a Federal Pacific box is it?

It's the price of a service call $ 130 + the breaker ( pending on brand ) $ 30.00 to $ 100.00
Pretty straightforward job
