NW Inland Freshwater Rendezvous????

So if I'm reading this correctly, you're going to drop your trucks/trailers here, boat to Lewiston, then turn around and come back. Is that right? So the currently unemployed chauffer won't be needed to shuttle you guys to Lewiston after you've dropped off your trucks/trailers?

No problem parking the trucks/trailers at Clover Island for a few days. Then, when y'all get back to Kennewick we can have a get together dinner at Ice Harbor Brewing at The Marina. For those of you with a few extra days to fill, you can dock your toys at the yacht club and do day cruises up and down the river before you load up and head home.

Bear with me here; are we still planning on boating from Lewiston down to the Tri-Cities with Mike performing shuttle duties?

Mike and Nathan,

Yes, that was my original plan. I'm not sure if we'll boat up or trailer up at this point. I know Wyrman is planning to boat up and that does sound kind of fun too. I'm on the fence! Either way, at least 3 boats will be heading downriver from Lewiston starting around the 9th or 10th or so. Let us know if we need to massage those dates in any fashion! We're just trying to get this setup and figure out who needs to be where and when! I was hoping that we might have a few more to make Mike's trip worth it! I'll still pitch in for gas either way. That is about a 254-mile round trip so even at 20 mpg that's at least 12 to 13 gallons at $5.00 or $60 to $65 round trip. I'm in for $32 either way! It would be worth it just to have Mike's car service!! I may need a part or something at that point!! As we get closer and plans firm up, we can give Mike a better estimate on the time we'd be ready to have him pick us up in Kennewick.

One option might be to launch one night and then caravan down to Tri-Cities the next morning and give Mike a heads-up call that we're on the way. Again, just another suggestion!

Looks like we might have room for another captain or two as well. If you know someone else that might want to attend throw it out and see what happens! I don't think it will be a problem either way.

As I recall we need to talk to "Kandy" or "Candy" at the Port so she can set us up with free passes to park on the island for that time period. She's great to work with and e-mails the pdf so you can print it and place it on your truck's dash.

Toss any suggestions out and we'll do our best to incorporate those into the trip!!

That was my thought also. I'll be dragging mine down from the Coeur D Alene area the morning of the 9th (Friday)

Absolutely! Especially in the current market, I wouldn't assume to do anything less.

We'll probably trailer up Thursday night or Friday morning. Then we can figure out when to head to Kennewick and catch Mike. Of course, we might BOAT up the river too..... Decisions, decisions! We've got some friends in Lewiston and might invite them down to the boat for a bit.

Are you headed on to Boise after the trip? We might catch you up at Lake Pend Oreille in May if you are around. If not, maybe in July sometime? We'll figure that our later!

We're interested in the May trip as well.
You can not leave your vehicles overnight at Clover Island without getting a pass from Kandy Yates at the office. It's free I believe. Whether we go or not, we have plenty of parking available at our house. It's only 5 minutes away from the marina. I believe your vehicles would be safer as well, but that's up to you guys.

I have blocked out Sept 6-15 on my calendar so I'll be ready if anyone needs a shuttle.

I've worked with Kandy for years and can meet up with her to get the passes or have her email one (pdf) to me and I'll print out however many we need.

It's still up in the air for me. I'm hoping to trailer the old girl down to Meridian in the next couple of weeks for some focused repair/upgrade work, then unsure at that point when it'll go back up. I'd like to plunk it into Lucky Peak for a shakedown cruise first before hauling it back up north. However, the ultimate goal is to have the boat back up at Pend O'Reille full-time. Having it up there means a short 2-hour drive to Lewiston, as compared to over 5 hours from Meridian.

If you've ever had the displeasure of being in Leaky Peak reservoir, you'll understand my desire to stay out of there. As I mentioned to the admiral, it's just a hole in the desert with water poured in.

Oh, come on. It's a nice place if your in your ski boat and have 10 or your BSU frat buddies in it and drunk.

I would worry about that grade with the tight curve at the bottom where it goes into single lane with the K rails right after the curve.

Nope never been there.

I just happen to be at the ramp that year the dozer operator ran off the razorback while cutting line for the big fire. I was shooting planes dropping retardant and shot the dozer going off the side and rolling down the hill.

I missed that one! Do you remember about what year that might have happened?

That was back about 2013. I want to say it was in july. Being a certified journeyman operator, I had just put in my paperwork. They suspended all hiring due to that one.

I wish I lived closer, sounds like a great time.
Now's the time!! Trailer it on over! Can't be THAT far? We trailer to the San Juan's, Montana and Northern Idaho and have a couple of Northern, ID trips planned already!

Or wait until we do a west end Columbia cruise.

I'm looking forward to the long trip from PDX to Astoria and back. I might do a Newport to PDX then back trip. For security reasons.

The ramp in PDX is in the same lot as the marine patrol. That facility has been close since the beginning of covid. And the homeless have taken over the pay use park and ramp. Not a good place to leave a pick up and trailer for overnight parking.

Yeah, Portland isn't exactly at the top of our travel itinerary! LOL!! Seattle is down near the bottom along with Portland! Actually, I don't even think they are ON the list anymore! Sad but true.

And that is my big problem. There is only two ramps I can launch from in PDX. Both not secure at all. The rest are not big enough for the boat. Sauvies Island is a tiny ramp. And Clackamas is too shallow. Not that I would leave the pick up in Clackamas either. Yaquinta Bay is very secure. As you would expect from a pay to park and pay to use city owned facility
