Ordered a new car.

So now we’re toying with the idea of getting the Outback Limited XT that has the 260hp 2.4l vs. the standard 2.5l 180hp. We drove both and the 180hp is kind of a dog, but averages 27mpg with 33 highway. The XT gets 24-28mpg.

I'd give up the mileage for the extra HP every time.

Subarus are everywhere in West Michigan. Very popular car here, so the car must be pretty good. Great for getting around in our lake effect snow. I ordered an Audi A5 convertible for my wife last September and it has yet to be built due to a big slowdown in manufacturing at the factory. The dealer has no idea when it will be built or delivered. Of course one of their car carriers is at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean so that is a whole other set of problems.

just bought a 2019 S5 coupe and love this car

Well, I just got a reply back and the XT is $2k more. I'm swaying towards it. Did the mileage math and it equates to about $400 more a year. However, if the car was loaded with luggage and people, it wouldn't be an underpowered dog. The standard Limited felt underpowered with just the 3 of us in it.

Some Subaru drivers like to think their cars are sort of like Porsches because they have flat 4 boxer engines, especially the WRX drivers with souped up engines that make more HP than the base Subarus. :)

Some of those WRXs have been tuned to make big HP. Not a Subaru, but my son had a Mazda Speed6 with a 2.3 turbo. He had to rebuild the engine and by the time he was done it dyno'd at a tad over 425 HP. Not bad HP/liter. And the car was AWD, so that power translated to the pavement. Thing was a rocket ship. Sadly he wrapped around a telephone pole. The car is gone, but the engine is sitting in a crate in my garage waiting for another car.

My son bought a brand new 2017 WRX a week after we bought our Crosstrek. He wasn't very good at driving a stick yet so he took my truck to work that night. Me and my wife took his car and went to a restaurant. On the way back a Mitsubishi convertible pulled up beside us on a 4 lane with a car full of youngsters and was wanting to race. He took off then slowed to get back beside us and did it again. After the 2nd time he realized I wasn't gonna race him so he waved and pulled away. Now 25 years ago it would have been game on...lol. But that WRX was fast

They can be quick, but just not Porsche quick and definitely not Porsche fast.

Took delivery on this 2021 911 in early August last year. Porsche of Southampton calls weekly offering me $10k more than I paid for it, including the tax. They have a buyer that NEEDS this color combination. Porsche discontinued production of Midnight Blue Metallic for 911's in November, even on cars that were ordered prior to that. Of course, you can always order that color under Porsche's Paint to Color option.....for just $11,430 plus tax. I'll hold this one. I do still have a new Corvette on order since November 2020, dealer says it will be an early 2023. I may wait for the all electric Vette. The chick in the bottom picture has cost me many, many, many multiples over the cost of a new Porsche.

yeah, I get your point, but fast enough. I had that car up to 160 and it was loafing. Had plenty left. But that's as fast as I was comfortable going. I see the allure of Porsche, but they don't do anything for me. My Dad raised a practical son. A boat is about as impractical as I get. YMMV.

Recently bought a used 2016 Corvette with about 10k on the clock. Out the door price was damned close to its original MSRP. Used car prices are obscene these days. Gotta pay to play, I suppose.

Fastest I ever had a car was a 1986 Buick lesabre had her at 120 and she was floating.
That’s about all I can add to this thread,! Have only bought 1 vehicle new and that is my 08 duramax, and she has 260k on her, and I’ll driver her til they put me in the ground

edit: I think I had a dodge work truck in the late 90’s that I had to around the 130 mark

I’m going to re-test drive the NA one again tomorrow and make my decision. I still have the NA coming in and should be here at the end of the week, but we’ll be in FL so we won’t close the deal until our return.

I had my 1970 Olds W31 up to about 115 on the highway back around 1991. Had a 650hp 1969 Chevelle street legal drag car that went through the traps at 116. My son says he had his WRX up to 125. But he also drove a Star Mazda Pro Formula car on the track right after his 15th birthday and hit 125 in it too
