I was cruising on plane and got two beeps from the alarm. Engine temp and oil pressure looked fine. I turned off the engine. I could not get it started while in nuetral. If I disengaged the transmission and gave it some gas it would start with no alrm and run. As soon as I brought it back to idle it died. Any ideas.

Thanks. IDo you know if there supposed to be an alarm when it needs replacement and why isn't that alarm mentioned in the Sea Ray manual.

That's a good question. I don't think it falls under the alarm conditions. I'm thinking that it was a coincidence, or the condition triggered one of the other alarms. It's not unusual to get an alarm that turns out to be nothing - loose wire, stray electron...

My IAC valve went bad 2 weeks ago. I didn't get an alarm though! It is a piece of cake to switchout. It took longer to uncover and cover the boat than it did to replace the IAC valve. On my 5.0 the IAC valve is located just behind the throttle body. You can seen the picture the silver part to the right of the flame arrestor. it comes off with two screws that require an allen wrench. Be sure to get a new gasket also.

FYI: the original was black but the new one was silver

I also agree the IAC sounds like it is bad. The alarm and the IAC are probably not related. Just the same once the engine is running again you need to figure out the cause of the alarm. Don't just dismiss it. It sounded for a reason. The simplest thing to check first is the level of your outdrive fluid. You would be surprised how many times that is the cause of the alarm. If that's not it and the alarm is still sounding, you will need a Technician to connect a scanner to your ECM to identify the problem unless you can spot something obvious.

Let us know how you make out.

The alarm is definately related to the failed IAC valve.

Happened to me a few weeks back. First the alarm sounded twice. When I pulled the throttle back to neutral, the engine died. It wouldn't idle after that and would die if you tried to shift from forward to reverse. Replaced the IAC and life is back to normal and the livin' is easy, catfish are jumpin' and the cotton...sorry, I broke out in song. It was a great weekend for being on the lake in Kentucky this weekend.

I now have a spare valve and gasket.

This valve failure seems like a common occurance with 5.0. I wonder what the problem is with these engines and valve combinations that cause the failure.

The alarm is definately related to the IAC sensor failure. Mine failed on my about 30 miles out. the alarm went off and I shut the engine down. After getting it restarted I head back to home port and every 1-2 minutes the engine alarm would beep at me. I monitored the temp, oil pressure, water pressure everything was fine on the way back except for that constant Beep every 1-2 minutes. it gets annoying after about 30 miles. any way to make a long story short after changing the IAC sensor the beeping did not return.

You were all correct, it was the IAC valve. It gives off two alarm beeps periodically. Since it was covered under my warranty I had the Marina replace it. They als did a scam at the same time to confirm that was the only issue. The boat runs great now. Thanks for the help.
PS It would have been nice if the Mercruiser manuals explained this and the warning sound..

Because they all fail at 125-150 hours they didn't want to look like idiots. There should be a two tone alarm at 3 minute intervals when it fails. Don't ask how I know that.
