2008 340 Wet Stringers

Just came from the mechanic. They still haven't started the repair (sigh). I do in fact have dripless. I was confusing the drips from the rudder seals. They leak for a bit when I first go in the water. The repair involves pulling everything from the bilge, boring out the old wood, filling with seacast, re-glassing and sealing the entire bilge. Certainly should seal any holes. I'll be replacing seals, filters etc. while engines are out. Any other suggestions to repair/replace during this process?

I always have a wet bilge. In every boat. Never had stringers rot.
Problem is far more than some water in bilge.
I can start summer bone dry, first cockpit wash, the shallow lip under hatch covers is gonna let water in.

Get a cockpit cover to keep rain water out. Oh, and put it on every time you leave the boat.
Serious? Coming into slip at 9pm from tiki bar, that cover is not going on. Not fighting with 30 lbs of canvas in the dark, half jagged up.
Wake up at 2am, huge storm, oh I should put the cover on.

Different strokes for different folks, right? Case in point - I always put my cover on and ALL of the Sea Ray's I've owned have had dry bilges. If I found water, I knew there was a leak to track down and I made darn sure I found it. Now, if it's a simple area like the "lip" you mentioned, Pirate -- I wouldn't classify that as a "leak" since it's really more of an overflow type thing.

Agree. My point was it’s not that hard to get water in bilge. And if he has soaked stringers, it’s a little more than rain water or cockpit washing getting into bilge. He has a problem.
Discussion is not about water drips in bilge, it’s about rotted stringers, the guy has a problem.
