My wife and I recently moved from Charlotte, NC to Tarpon Springs FL. I have been around boats my whole life but never had an opportunity to own one until now. This will be my first boat. The boat will mainly be for recreation to take us to the islands and sandbars around this area. I'd like to use it for spearfishing and diving. It would be used for fishing as well. We are looking to purchase a 2022 Sea Ray SPX 190 with a Mercury 150. There are two different models. One has a single axle trailer and bimini top. The other has a dual axle trailer and a tower with top. I like the dual axle trailer however not sure it's necessary with the weight of the boat. I also like the look of the tower but concerned it has a tad less coverage than a bimini. The difference is about 4-5k so not life changing.
I'd like some thoughts from those that have experience with both.

So, if you plan on trailering much, and any distance, the dual axle is the way to go. The boat weighs in around 3000 pounds so 2 axles are not really needed. As for the roof, it is more a matter of preference for looks, they are close to the same coverage. Is it a fold down arch? If not, bimini has more flexibility for height clearance.

I would strongly suggest renting a boat of similar size to make sure that it will provide what you want. I was considering the same, but after renting I found it was too small for my taste, however it might fit what you want.

The boat should be great for sandbar and cruising the area. As for spearfishing and diving well not so much. That is not a boat I would take offshore except for a very few days and not have a very close eye to the sky and the forecast.
As for trailer double alxe is better but not necessary. I tow my 17ft scout on a single alxe. Just got back from everglades national park with it last week. Fished the backcountry and Florida bay on a 7 day trip. Make sure you have the best tires you can buy and inflated correctly. Those shitty cheep ass China tire aren't worth the money it takes to ship them here. I use Goodyear endurance. They are the only trailer tire with a 87mph speed rating. Obviously you shouldn't go that fast but nice to know they have the ability to do it per manufacturer.

I have the 21 SPX. It is a great boat for the area. Used to put in at Clearwater and cruise the waterway sometimes going offshore on nice days. The 19’ will work well for you. You don’t want to be diving on rough days anyway.
