07 kohler 5ecd

I’m in salt
Wish the previous owner used it
Wasn’t running on sea trial
Made him fix it
Ran when I picked boat up
Hasn’t worked since

The UU indication may or may not be the actual fault. If engine shuts down immediately after releasing the start button the UU code may pop…
The engine has 3 shut down sensors. High exhaust temp, low oil pressure and high coolant temp. When a sensor faults it goes to ground causing the engine to shut down. So disconnect those sensors in a way so that the wires cannot go to ground and see if the genny runs.

if yes then the problem is 1 of the 3 sensors on the engine. If the genny continues to fault move over to troubleshooting the actual generator.

Start with checking all connections, any and every wire / connection that can be found. Then check the brushes.

Those are the easy checks on the genny side. If no joy start the troubleshooting tree in the manual.

A multi meter will be necessary…

I am not familiar with the differences between the 5ced and the 5E. But, something else I just remembered. Happened to a neighbor on his 320 (also a 5E) Check your fuel pump connection, make sure its clean and tight. A few years ago he was changing his oil. Ran genny til warm. Changed oil. Attempted to restart and would not. You would think after 20 minutes of warm up to do the oil change it would just start right back up. Nope. Turned out the fuel pump connection had just a little corrosion and was making intermittent connection. Cleaned it up, started and ran as usual. If is isn't that, you now know you have a secure clean connection there. As stated in above, you should clean and verify all of your connections. It is something simple that costs nothing but a little time, but could certainly cause a problem. And you will now know it is not a wiring connection issue. After all of the differential diagnosis, it will certainly be a learning lesson when this get figured out.

Years ago, my 5ECD popped the UU and it turn out to be a connection that was left disconnected, a connection right on the front. I'd double check all the wiring is good.

As said above, once you get it fixed - run it often and load it up. We fire it up when we leave the slip and she runs until we get back on shore power...

So today I had a hour or so of free time I went down to the boat
Started checking some of the easy things again
Good Spark at both plugs
Test generator still uu code
Bleed the fuel system
Wasn’t able to test pressure no gauge available and local store but bleeding the system the bottle filled up quick
Tested generator still uu code
Tested the fuses with the multimeter
F6 was jumping all over the place and would finally rest at 0.6 the other would get to 0.6 almost instantly
Noticed a bit of corrosion on f6 fuse and fuse holder
Cleaned those up best I could
Tested generator and she fired right up
Ran great for a few minutes went to hit the switch to put some load on it
But before I got there It died displaying an ec69 code
O2 sensor related from what I can read
Tested O2 with multimeter and got 2.5 on c&d pins on the sensor side
Couldn’t get anything out of a&b
Could get back there to test any of the pins on the generator side not sure if I was suppose to or not
After all this tried generator once more before heading home and back to uu code
Have some videos that I’ll have to upload later

Please confirm the 2.5 reading vs 25.
2.5 is definitely out of range whereas 25 is within specs.

Ya I thought that too
I had 2.5 on c&d with the meter set at 200

Ec69 says pins a&b should be 25

this one says c&d should be 2.5 which I got
Wasn’t able to get anything on a&b
But also hard to get to it on the non service side
I’m testing the wires that are attached to O2 sensor correct ? Not the ones coming from generator

Based on the available info the o2 sensor is certainly not in spec but, before changing that has the fuel pressure been verified? And… after rereading the entire thread can you send a pic of the “unplugged harness resting against the exhaust manifold”?

the harness splits out of the wire loom the comes out of the back of the main computer area almost immediately
Rest on what I think is the catalytic converter
Metal pipe before rubber exhaust hose
The wire harness is a 4 pin connector with only 2 pins in it with 2 white wires
I’ll grab a pic next visit

If it's two white wires going into a plug with a purple insert that is for the smartcraft vessel view integration and there should be a harness somewhere near the firewall near the generator that matches it.

There is also a break over year that has a catalytic converter temperature sensor. Mine is new enough that it has the harness for the temperature sensor but it does not have the sensor installed or configured in the controller.

I'm beating a dead horse here but have you checked the fuel pressure and compression yet? The answers to that will determine what I would recommend to check next. I'm betting one or the other is off.

Plus 1 on the fuel pressure test..

Also, the ec69 code could come up if your fuel mixture is too rich or lean and the reading is outside of the oxygen sensor operating range.

mine threw the same code when it was only running on the lift pump (if it ever got past the uu stall)
