500/520 DB official thread

Have the Battery Shunt on the House/Port Battery. It also monitors the Starting/Starboard battery but only for voltage. I thought I wanted the AC power monitor but once we lose AC power I get a alarm that charging has stopped. I suppose it would be good to know if we have 205volts versus 240 volts. Auto Gen Start is a whole other animal.

I do want to add the bilge pump monitors, a few more temp monitors and ultimately tank senders...
I got to thinking that you may have to change the two circuit breakers in the main DC breaker panel - It's the two battery charger circuit breakers at the very bottom of the rows. OEM is 60 amp and charge current is 70 amps. You may be tripping the circuit breakers when this is in Bulk charge mode... If one or both should trip you wouldn't know it until the battery becomes discharged.

Thanks for that... Coincidently I spoke with the battery manufacturer of our 8D's during set up and they suggested a max recommended charge amp of 60. The charge amps are customizable (along with all sorts of other parameters) within the Skylla so I changed the max charge to 60AMPs.

Thanks again for looking out though!

Discoloration on transom door. My transom door is showing a black mold-like spots on the finish actually looks to be below the finish. It seems the transom door isn't fiberglass. All traditional cleaning doesn't seem to change the condition at all.
Any suggestions or similar condition?
Tom

I haven’t seen this on mine yet. Have any pictures?

@ttmott
Assuming acetone had no effect?
This may sound odd, but if you look at the end of the door where the latch is, is the door solid? If it is like mine, there are 2 seams on that skinny end . Maybe some moisture has gotten in?

I just had the latch out to clean and lubricate. There are two seams; they looked intact and still bonded.
I didn't try Acetone.... I'll try that.

Well….. It’s bittersweet………but after 12 years of cruising with Retreat, she now has a new owner. I sold her without a broker and in doing so…..I got to know the new owner over the past couple of weeks. It’s comforting to know she is in good hands and I’m confident he will continue to take great care of her.
I’m sure he’ll find this forum very useful moving forward as it’s been a great source of information for me over the years……..
Cheers!

Tom,
The hatch is made out of acrylic and made by Boat Outfitters. You might give them a call and see what they say. I ran into them at the Lauderdale boat show and turns out their other division made all of the starboard and acrylic doors for our Sea Rays and still have all the CAD files to remake them. They told me if we ever need one they could make it no problem. Being it is acrylic you should be able to color sand and buff but not knowing if it is coated I would call them before I cut into it with grit. I have some discoloring on mine and look forward to hearing what you find out.

Not really sure…. For now, we just want to take a break. As you could imagine, this was a huge decision that we went back and forth with for a while. We used her a lot so it will definitely be an adjustment. We just felt we needed a life change. I’m retired and ideally we would like to do some extended travel overseas once the restrictions ease up.
In regards to a toy, we’re thinking of going to a center console for a little while. Something easy to maintain but large enough that could get us to the Keys and maybe even the Bahamas. I’m sure we will go back to a large boat someday..
And if my wife thinks I drove her crazy before being boatless, she ain’t seen nothing yet! I’m already apologizing for my behavior that hasn’t happened yet!

Congrats steve, it’s unfortunate that our cruising together only lasted 1 year maybe that’s why you sold RETREAT! We thank you for all the trips you took us on and wish you get what you want out of your next venture.

Getting through my winter to do list and forgot to double check the size of the chain for the anchor when I was at boat yesterday. I’m assuming 3/8 but not sure. I’m replacing my swivel with a mantis and would like to get it ordered.
I did get all of the hatches replaced in the cockpit though. The frames all pitted and the paint was pealing off. Boat outfitters made me new frames and doors and I reused the boxes on the backs. Turned out pretty good I thought.

Steve, my frame is pitted as well, but I'm going tor try to sand and repaint it. Good to know that Boaty Outfitters can replace it...
