I have a 2000 410 DA with 3116T Cats.

My Hot Water Tank (HWT) has provisions to use heated glycol (antifreeze) from either engine, circulate the hot glycol through the HWT coil, which would keep the water in the tank hot while underway.

Would anyone know where SR tapped into the closed cooling system to use this feature? Would you have pictures or a diagram?

Thanks

My guess is no one has antifreeze circulating through their HWT to heat the water while underway? If so would you be able to provide advice. Thanks

Are you sure it's the antifreeze that circulates trhough the HWH? All the systems I've seen had raw water instead of antifreeze, but I don't have much experience with diesel systems. Those that I've seen on diesel boats didn't have heat exchanger via HWH, only 110v to keep the water hot.

I have a 2005 Amber Jack and it makes hot water from starboard engine while under way. The antifreeze from engine goes throw the hot water heater. My HWH will make hot water two ways from engine or electric. [ Dock or Gen.] The two hoses from HWH go two the intake on the engine. it should work if you add the HWH in the water loop from engine. Maybe thermostat housing. Will be at boat saturday let me know if u want pix

Yes, the company that marinized the 3116/3126 for Caterpillar tapped the jacket coolant circuit as standard. Every Sea Ray with 3116's I've seen has the water heater coil in the engine coolant circuit. Mine is buried under a bundle of plumbing so I've never bothered to follow it back to the engine. I realize it isn't much help, but all I can offer is to follow the plumbing from the water heater back to the engine on your particular boat.

I would love a pic. That would really help. thanks for the reply and sorry for being late.

The coil is built into the Hot Water Heater and has never been used or hooked up to the engine. If there is specific location for the hookup to the engine, that would be extremely helpful. I would expect it is before the heat exchanger but I may be wrong.

My Cummins has plugs in the block that can be removed for hoses to be run to the heat exchanger in the water heater.
I would install valves at the block before running the hoses to your water heater.

Trying to keep this alive so someone can help. The Searay Manual shows the lines coming off the HWT but not where they attach to the engine cooling system. A picture or diagram would be great.

Thanks

I'd be curious to know where it ties in too. I've thought about making that modification many times over the last 6 years, but haven't done it. I never did understand why SR didn't hook up the circulating lines on the 410 HWH's?? I think SR tied it in on gassers, but I have never seen or heard of them doing it on the diesel 410's.....

Hello All
I have asked this question on another string with no results that show the supply and return ports on the 3116 cat.
Still looking and will advise if I am successful

Here are a few pic's - it's tough to get in there for a good picture...
