Does anyone else monitor forsale ads for customization ideas?

I look once in awhile to see any updates …… more disappointed then impressed

I look to see what alot more money will get me, then im happy again with what I have......

I find few have done anything of any value and that only some the OEM stuff is even worth looking at. JMO. That's why I still have an old update boat.

I just did today, and I will say, no brag just fact, for my model year I never see one anywhere in the country in better condition than mine. So not getting remodel ideas.

Yes, but rarely get any new ideas. Mostly find older / similar boats that still have the original tired equipment. Overall, it seems most people do the bare minimum and don't upgrade or restomod anything.

I want my boat to be as if this 2004 was made in the last few years, therefore I upgrade something every year. Last year (2021) was new custom vinyl cockpit helm and bow, new siren marine, new Vesper AIS, added capability to carry spare props, added Victron Argo FET's to both engines so the shared inverter / bow thruster batteries get charged while underway.

What does your setup look like?

I want to add a battery (maybe 2?) for the generator. Would it be a good idea to power the bow thruster off that bank of batteries? Right now I limit it’s use because it’s tied to the starboard motor batteries and I don’t want to lose that motor while trying to dock. Not sure if that’s really a concern but the voltage really drops when I use the thruster.

I agree with you about doing gradual updates. This year, I’m working on upgrading the electronics. The vinyl will probably be due in the next 3-5 years. I’d also like to get the carpet out of the berths, and maybe do something with the wood covering to lighten the cabin a little. That dark cherry is pretty, but it’s also dark inside.

I seem to want to modify the dash layout on every boat I’ve had. I’ve just never been completely happy with the way the dash was designed from the factory, including my last two Sea Rays and now my Princess. I have gotten some very good ideas for dash layouts from looking at the same model boats from different years for sale.

My set up is quite different as my boat is 24V. I have two batteries for port (starting & house), two batteries for stbd (starting & house), two batteries for bow thruster/inverter, 1 battery for generator (12V).

I highly recommend a dedicated battery for the Generator. That gives a way to recharge other batteries in most any circumstance.

If I understand your description correctly, your bow thruster can kill the battery used to crank the engine, if not given time to recharge (via alternator), but it won't kill your engine if it's already running. Once an engine is running the alternator is supplying power, not the battery.

Like Brett, I want the boat to look like it is as new and updated as possible. In 2021, we added new cockpit vinyl, new sun pads with sunbrella cover, new camper canvas, new cockpit carpet, new cockpit sink with Corian countertop, all new smart TVs, AquaDek on the swim platform, and wife redecorated the cabin. This year I am working on the electronics, dash, etc. New Aetna tachs already installed. Raw water side of the engines was gone through at purchase. I have to paint the engines and detail the bilge. That is going to take a while.

In our 44DB, two thruster batts wired for 24v, 2-starboard for house and engine, 2-port for engine, house, and gen. This 42DA has no bow thruster so 2-starboard for the engine and helm electronics, 2-port for engine and house, and a stand alone gen battery. Both boats were OEM from the battery standpoint.

I have two batteries on each engine. Wired in parallel. If I get too crazy with the bow thruster it will stall the engine, or come close to stalling it. Battery voltage drops down to 9-10v with the thruster engaged. I have so far limited how much I use it, due to this issue.

I'm not an expert but I would look into 1) modify alternator w/ external voltage regulator and/or 2) larger alternator.

BTW, quite often Bow Thrusters are not rated for continuous service but only rated for "x" minutes of intermittent use. Beyond that point, the motors get hot, inefficient etc and tend to draw more amps. Especially as the voltage decreases.

Since I do wood working I've changed things in our 310 Da. to make it different. It started first with the carpet overload in the cabin replacing the carpet with a subfloor and Plasteak flooring. Then the carpet covered steps was the next thing to go. Replaced them with solid white oak steps. That led me to white oak drawer units under the dinette seats for more accessible storage . The white laminate cabinet under the Vee berth was this off season project. It was replaced in white oak also. As for the cockpit replaced the oval sink with stainless because I left a rag that was soaked with MEK in the sink. Two toned the upholstery over the tried looking white with gold piping. Replace the burber carpet with weave. As for nav. systems this off season new dash from Flounder Pounder going back in with black over the stock look. Will be getting rid of the old Raymarine Radar and monitor and separate Standard Horizon Chart Plotter for a 943xsv multi monitor and radar.

Do you have any photos?

I have two AGM's in the floor next to the thruster and they are wired back to a battery combiner + house mains for additional power & re-charging. It has never affected a voltage drain on the mains.
