I recently purchased a 2000 540 and one of my winter projects is to add 4 JL Audio speakers to the top of the hard top. These would be wakeboard tower speakers. Does anyone have pics of an install or suggestions? I'm not sure if the spacing should be equal, more towards center beam etc. A few pics would be great.

You can see in my sig below I added two large JL's. They are separated across the hardtop. I always liked their placement regardless of angle you looked at the boat. If I were to do 4 speakers I'd pair them up and still separate them.

Is two enough? We often sit on a mat or raft behind the boat and hate how loud the cockpit speakers have to be to hear the music 20’ off the back of the boat. Not looking for blasting music club music.

I guess it depends on your amp and quality of the speakers. We did exactly the same as you, floating 20-40' back from the boat. We never had an issue with the volume or quality of the sound. We'd like a few loud tunes but mostly just some cool music that you can still talk over. My head unit had a waterproof remote with a lanyard, which was awesome. Change tunes and volume without risking your phone.

I’m installing a Fusion RA 770 with fusion amp and JL M6 speakers. We have debates 2 vs 4. I don’t need super loud. Just want to listen to background music and still talk. But I do want it clear and the occasional blast. What are you using for a remote?

I'd say 2 would be fine unless there's a dance-pole on the swim platform, in which case you'd need at least 4 :)

But seriously, I'm no audiophile, so go with what your stereo guy recommends.

You can control the volume on the Fusion with an Apple Watch or even better with a Garmin watch while in the water. I put one of their arx remotes (little round wireless waterproof ones) on the back of my cockpit and am thinking about adding another to the swim platform. They are $50 and you can add up to 8.
