Anyone have big plans for New Year's Eve or New Year's Day?

We'll be staying in Glendale at my sisters(59th and Union Hills), but my mom lives in Sun City around 110th and Peoria, the old part.
We're just going to visit as our first post retirement trip. We semi have a plan, but no specific timeline, or hard plans.
Retirement's great!
Our place is in Sun City West near R H Johnson and Bell.

If you want a fabulous Asian meal, try Saigon Kitchen at 141st and Bell. Their Shaken Beef is amazing. Or for great Cod hit Fuzzy's on Reems near Grand. It's a sports bar and the fish is available either breaded/friend or grilled. Both are good. Friday nights it's all you can eat for about $12.

Lots of choices, forum members. Our first year as members, not just of the SR Forum, also a new Yacht Club. Cocktails starting at 18:30, catered dinner, dancing, and Casino tables in the bar. These YC members have become good friends, so we're eager to dress it up a bit, not likely to wear my deck shoes. Have not decided if we'll stay over on the boat, depends on consumption, the DD decision and the temps, perhaps into the thirties. NY Day will be filled with parade, bowl games, (ND at 10:00) champagne and all the rest of it!
Happy 2022 all!

Shoot... I didn't realize the college playoffs were on new years eve. Guessin I now know what I'll be doing. Wife and mother in law can watch the Nashville show. I'll head down to the basement and watch football. Hoping for SEC continued dominance.

Spending time with family & friends along with good libations are planned. Now, if I can just catch enough Crappies to bring to the party. ( I can suffer through Coors Light)

Edit: Happy New Year!!

I am rooting for Cincinnati since they will be soon joining the big 12. Yes I know they have very little chance. Should be fun tho

When I was a kid…looking down the hole…the hole turned black a huge pike took the bait….I pulled him up thru the hole and on to the floor of the hut… this fish was pissed and tried to attack everyone….we all ran out of the hut…. It was too funny…my dad went back in and got him out

We had a few couples coming over to bring in the New Years but within the last 2 days 2 of them now have fevers and running noses.

Pulled the ripcord and cancelled!

We used to do it big on NYE but this one is shaping up to be a big snooze unless I come up with something in the next couple of days.

I definitely can say that won't include freezing my *ss off sitting on a monster ice cube and fishing!

If that's how you're doing your ice fishing you're doing it all wrong. My former father-in-law and his buddies built a wood shed, about 10'x10' shed on huge skids. They would tow it out onto the ice with a pickup then chop about a 4' diameter hole in the ice. The shed also had a small wood stove they would use to keep it about 75* inside. They had an inverter they would hook up to the pickup and use that to power their TV.

Not a bad way to fish.

We always ice fished in a hut with a wood stove… I don’t know about a 4’ hole…. Cracking ice already makes me nervous… we would have a hole in each corner….

We have had 70* temps since Christmas Day and forecasted through Sunday. Also rain from today through Sunday. A few of us planning on going to the dock on Friday to watch the semi-final games. Close eye on the Orange Bowl. Big storms predicted Sat night with temps dropping….may come home Sat.

We are going to be in Key West. Look out Duval St here we come.
Did Duval St on New Years Eve a couple years back, what a time! No plans so far this year, but I will be leaving for the Keys on January 9:)

Growing up in Cleveland, every year stories of trucks going thru the Erie ice. Walking out on crackling ice was always a hell no. Aint no dam perch worth it.
In fact, I didn’t like Erie in July. That ‘lake’ belong to the devil and will kill you.

First wife was from Grand Rapid, MN. They lived on a big lake (doesn't everyone in MN) and her dad was a big ice fisherman. Or more accurately a big hook watcher while drinking beer. Great guy. Was SO freaky the first time we drove a pickup on the lake. Always was uncomfortable with it.

So when I pick my boat up in the Spring I should just get the hell out of there and head home?
