I got the short end of the stick this past Friday night with a pretty dark train bridge.
It's was during our local Christmas boat parade, that I was part of.
Anyways, I thought I was way clear of the bridge column, but I was wrong.
Noone got hurt, my wife did take a header into the cabinet below the cockpit sink, tweaked her neck, but she's off to Florida now so she must be ok.
I don't think there's enough damage for insurance, so I have a highly recommended fiberglass guy coming to look at it.
I need to know the best place to get new rubrail would be.
Plus, I'm probably done doing the parade, but if I did, I want to install a radar.
It wouldn't get used but once or twice a year, so want to keep it as economical as possible, but still a good one.
I can also start a new thread for that if needed.

Bummer deal! Glad the hear only a little pride and fiberglass was injured. Not sure how a radar would help you though. Were you in zero vis and following a chart or just mis judged tight quarters? I've done a few of those parades in the past and was never really comfortable cruising in close proximity to others in a tight area at night with the distraction and glare of the thousands of lights. Most of them also were run by the yacht club but we would have others join in with-out attending the captains briefing and usually ended up being huge cluster fucks by the end. Decided sit it out this year not to mention decorating the three-story behemoth we bougth;)
Carpe Diem

I was distracted, and I was following the boat ahead of me that seemed to go closer to the bridge than previous years.(hindsight)
They had a meeting, I attended, I believe it's a well run parade. This is 100% on me for letting myself get distracted at a crucial point in the parade.
I had zero alcohol, and was confident in where I was. I was wrong, but I need to get some new rubrail. lol

Greg, Angel may have some leftover rub rail from when he did a patch for me a while back. If not, you might give a call to Carol's Custom Canvas and Upholstery in PDX. The guy you want to talk with is Gordon Gruhlke, the owner. Tell him I gave you his name. Sorry but I do not have his number.

Let me know how you make out with Angel and Gordon.

Looks like a pretty hard hit, sorry it happened. Ain't nut'n money won't fix!

I know it's more than rubrail, I have a highly recommended glass guy coming Friday to look at it.
Thank you halfhitch, I'll take a look at that site.
Mike, Gordon has moved his place to Battleground,Wa.
I was going to have him make my canvas last spring and he flaked out on me.

The SS is pretty standard stuff, Greg, so you should be able to source that just about anywhere. The PVC part - I'm not 100% positive on this as to whether or not it's a custom color. I've never ordered it anywhere else than through Sea Ray. However, it's still a current item at Sea Ray so you could get it through your local dealer (and the SS part, too, if you wanted to).

A big (possibly the biggest) player in this stuff is Barbour Plastics - they're a major manufacturer. You might check with them - however, you'll need to order a whole roll whereas your dealer may be able to get you just a short section of the PVC part... possibly a shorter section of the SS if they currently have some on hand.

Greg, before you jump out and buy any rub rail or a piece of that grey material beneath it, check with Angel. He's a whiz at color matching and also likely will have what you need on hand already.

He's coming over Friday morning Mike. I'm sure we'll talk about it, I just want to be ready to buy some if needed.
Thank you everyone for the help, this wasn't a fun thing, but the boat can be fixed, and I learned that I don't like boating at night with my boat so bright I can't see what's around me.

If that's the first time you and your boat have kissed something you didn't intend to, it really pi$$es you off and scares you. The next time will be easier. Trust me. Each one gets a little easier if not less expensive.

That made me laugh pretty good Mike.

I got an estimate from Angel for $1500.00. I will source and buy the rubrail.
There's only one place in town to take fiberglass work to that I know of, and this guy use to work for them, he was their fiberglass guy.
He's now ventured off on his own.

Greg, he ventured off on his own because he went to the owner and asked for a raise. He was turned down so he bid them good bye. Everyone from the club has seen the quality of the work Angel has done so he's the go-to guy in the TriCities.

It'll amaze you how spendy buying rub rail and other bits and pieces are.

I've had only good experience the couple of times I used Finishcraft. They're known to be the best, probably had a lot to do with Angel.
Plus, Angel is mobile, Finishcraft doesn't have much room in their yard for a boat this size, and the neighborhood it's in isn't the best.
The rubrail isn't really expensive, it's the $250 shipping. I'm going to take a vacation to Phoenix in a month or so, I'm going to see if there's anywhere I can buy it there, or on the way.
If not, I'll just pay the price. Lesson learned for letting myself get distracted.

Good timing for your vaca. Swimplatforms.com is located right in Phoenix, kind of south of the downtown area. I'd bet they would sell you whatever you need and probably ship it for you.

I know they're down there. I hadn't thought about them. Do you think they would have the rubrail?
I didn't think they used the same stuff, from what I remember from a platform I bought from them for my old boat.
