What's so offensive about saying "Happy Thanksgiving"

I was meeting with a client at a somewhat liberal non proffit in D.C. today. After the meeting I wished the client happy Thanksgiving. She told me she was offended I would say that to her and said happy holidays is what I should say instead. I asked what she found offensive about saying that and she told me there are people of other faith and from other countries in the office and she doesn't want them to feel uncomfortable. I wanted to say some things but business is slow and I need the job. I really don't want to do business with someone so out of touch that they put the feelings of her international staff above pride in her country. I have noticed nobody in the corporate world want's to mutter happy thanksgiving lately. If I hear one more person say happy holidays I might puke. Thanksgiving is a national holiday and it is not a religious holiday. I consider this woman to be un American. Political correctness is getting worse in my opinion. The demands of the entitlement crowd and those who are so easily offended by anything that doesn't fall into their twisted view of our government are gaining mainstream support. I will continue offending these Liberal fools because the day it's not ok to say Happy Thanksgiving is the day I head for the hills.
I wonder if this would eventually apply to the country that claims it's strength is in it's diversity. He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away. ~Raymond Hull

When anyone says "Happy holidays" to me I say "Oh, Which holiday?" When they (usually shamefully) say "Christmas". I say "Merry Christmas to you too!"

Oooo, I like this one... I'm going to use it this year!!! Thanks!

I'm having an investor reception at my house next week for my company... complete with a Christmas tree and a decked out Christmas house. If any of the employees don't like it, they can get a new job or invest in a different company. How's that for some holiday spirit!!!

I love the Holiday Spirit!

So this reluctance to call a holiday what it is seems to still be a problem. At a doctors office, “have a nice holiday.” Reply, “Happy thanksgiving to you as well.” At the grocery store, “Have a nice holiday.” Reply, “happy thanksgiving to you as well.” At the Salvation Army donation center, “Thank you sir for your donation, happy thanksgiving, God bless you”

Last time I checked, thanksgiving is an American holiday celebrated in the USA. This is a holiday to be thankful we are not starving and dying. This is not a religious holiday, this is a secular holiday. So why are people afraid of saying “happy thanksgiving” and concerned that saying “happy thanksgiving” may offend people?

I read the original post and I have to say what offends me is that "liberals" are always judged as a group by conservative folks.

I'm the most liberal person I know and I say Merry Christmas NOT happy holidays.

I also own guns, I own a business, I drive a 4x4 V-8 American made pick-up and I always stand up, take off my hat and put my right hand over my heart when the national anthem is played...... oh, and I'm a member of the Southern Baptist Church too. :wow:

Everything you guys rail on liberals about is total bull crap in my case and for almost every liberal I know too. In fact the ONLY time I ever got chastised for saying "Merry Christmas" was by a nit-wit, thin skinned jehovah witness (who by the way had a "Bush '04" sticker on his damn crappy old toyota).

I don't think all conservatives are closet homosexuals, hooked on Oxycontin or unfaithful to their wife, so why must you always paint all liberals with a broad brush of bull****?

Does it kill your buzz when you realize your really not any different than me

All that aside, Happy Thanksgiving  I hope and pray the best for you an your families on this special day.

There are certainly exceptions to every generalization, and you sound like one of them. That said, find me a few conservatives that are offended by "Happy Thanksgiving" or "Merry Christmas" and you might have a point.

Totally missed that. The subject matter sounds like it came out of yesterday's headlines. I think I better head back over the the 'bikini forum' thread.

The relevance is why I brought up my old thread.

It’s not a liberal thing ..it’s a stupid narrow minded thing. By trying to be ‘woke’ these asshats prove how pinheaded and short sighted they really are. I have many good international friends. Just a few weeks ago I was wishing my Indian buddy a happy Diwali. I always tell my Muslim friends happy Ramadan and Happy Eid. Our best friends are a Jewish couple and we send them a Hanukkah card every year. Most all always take the time to wish me and my family a Merry Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving, and so on. When I lived in India, I was never offended when someone said happy Diwali to me. I knew where I was and I participated and was happy to be included in that culture. So this nonsense that it offends people is ridiculous. And if it does, get a life.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
"Happy Thanksgiving" reminds me to be grateful for the abundance we enjoy. Gratitude is the right attitude. Anyone finding a friendly greeting offensive needs to check their attitude. Any thinking person is bound to offend someone, sooner or later so I don't take responsibility for any offense taken by another. I think I'll wish all of you on Club Sea Ray a belated Happy Thanksgiving and best wishes for a Christmas season spent in Peace, Love and Joy among your friends and family. Merry Christmas!

I miss pack66dad and other members who used to contribute positively in our banter. I hope he is in a green pasture somewhere.

I thought that was just relevant to Christmas.

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Cheers

It ain't that easy....according to Dr Fauci we should only surround ourselves with the fully vaccinated and boosted at holiday time.

Ever since the internet has rooted itself in our life's it has made it possible for groups to band together and pollute the norm. Thirty yrs. ago it cost you money to voice your opinion to the masses. With the internet at everyone's finger tip there is no idea that doesn't get heard. Now if you want to standout you have to go hard against the norm. Just take QAnon ,BLM, Antifa for examples they all are guilty of one thing and that is miss direction of the truth to benefit their purpose and what is that purpose which is older then time itself Money. These Knuckle Heads that want to tell you what Thanksgiving and Christmas means only got traction because of the internet. The Main Stream has found out they can profit from this shit so here we are. So Merry Christmas to everyone and to everyone who's offended Merry Christmas to you the most because I'll be happy to make you pissed about something so you now have a purpose.
