Raymarine vs garmin

That would be very frustrating. Are you sure that everything can't be linked for off and on?
Hearing that your system can be…. I am wondering why mine wouldn’t. I will investigate this. I know the accept banner won’t go away and they are not currently connected… but maybe if they are power connected then they might be banner connected

Are we sure it is radar??? I am definitely going to go over and check out their booth.
Either a radar or the new NCC-1701

Cyclone appears to be an open array. That teaser video was of something else, a different form factor entirely. Anyone know what that product is?

That is what is in the video. The video is just being very secretive as to what it really looks like as they are playing games with the camera angles. You can see the different camera angles of the array base and such.

Its called the Cyclone because of what it does to your bank account. At 7 - 10 boat bux, it should locate bird flocks, teleport you there and bait your hooks.

Day-yum…At $6-$10k, unless, I’m going offshore and looking for birds, I’m thinking the Quantum 2 gets most cruisers everything they need for $2k.

Removed our dead HD Digital 4k raymarine radar this weekend as it stopped working about a month ago. Not in love with Raymarine's mfd but i've been comparing the features of the new cyclone radar and Its not a bad price for the 4' non pro version when compared to garmin. A similarly priced garmin doesn't have comparable doppler and chirp technology. If I return my old unit for repair they will give me a 25% discount on purchase of new unit. So I'm curious how those that have the garmin fantom series like the setup.

I ran into a radar issue as I was digging around to remove my classic e120. If I tried turning on the radar (4’ open HD Digital array) it would just reboot the e120. I tried doing some basic debugging but havent found the issue yet. In the meantime Santa dropped off a raymarine box with a new axiom+ so in it went. As soon as my Ethernet to raynet adapter gets in I’m going to plug in the radar and see if it recognizes it (I did ask raymarine and they said I shouldn’t damage the axiom).

if it’s bad I’m not 100% sure I will replace it. I have yet to have the radar be useful but I also haven’t operated the boat in the dark yet. Im wondering if a night vision camera would be a better investment?

What happened to your array?
Personally I feel it was the MFD software and firmware upgrade to the unit that screwed something up but Raymarine support says one of the main boards in the unit died. Did a bunch of trouble shooting within them and though we can get it to power up and spin we are not seeing any targets.

This is strange behavior. But when you have an electronic device working, and you power up a second one on the same circuit (or on the same ground circuit) and the first device reboots, the first thing I would look at is whether the second device is putting such a load on the power line that the voltage is drooping. A radar could easily be doing this when it powers up. Radars are power hogs and when you first turn them on they will pull a lot of current on the power line. This could cause a voltage drop on the power line - a drop that could result in the voltage being below the min needed by the first device, causing the first device to power down. When the voltage returns to normal, the first device would turn back on. Basically, this is a power-cycle reboot - same thing as if you had turned off/on the first device with a switch.

If you experience similar behavior with the Axiom, try powering them with clean, separate sources of power and see if the behavior continues. Make sure you're using large enough wire to support the current pulled by the radar. Smaller wire sizes will have increased resistance, resulting in voltage drops.

This could also be happening if you're somehow putting voltage on to the ground of the first device, making it "think" the power has dropped. Or, if you have a poor ground connection on the first device. So make sure your grounds are separate and clean, too.

Were you able to find a troubleshooting guideline?
