40 sedan bridge forum

Sometimes seems like CAT wants to sell every part of the pig but the squell. Rotella t 1 single wt is easily available. Why risk all the horrors that CAT claimed would happen to our aftercoolers with multi? Will CAT replace any damaged aftercoolers? Woops forgot they don't make them anymore!

Wow. Pulled the boat yesterday and was surprised to see I am missing an underwater exhaust. Don’t know how or when this happened. Don’t remember hitting anything. Anyone else had this happen? Price on FP $1600. Any other place to source one of these?
Thanks, Greg

There was a recent discussion on this in the gas engine forum here. Search there or on my content. They reported several sources. Appears diesels may have a larger sized exhaust pod. Good luck.
FP?

Thanks, I will take a look. Greg

I'm not at the boat so I can't crawl under the helm (or disassemble it to measure things), so I thought I'd ask:

What brand and model tach gauge is this? It's from a 2003 400DB.

I'm curious what the hole size is in my helm and what the electrical interface is to it...

Thanks,
Steve

3.5” in diameter. It has four wires to it. Power from the engine start switch, ground, backlight from the dimmer module and signal wire from the engine.

Can’t help you with manufacturer. But most all of us with diesels replace them with Aetna digital tachs when they fail. They fit in the hole without modification.

Thanks. Mine aren't dead, but I noticed the port one starting to stick late this season. And they aren't accurate. That doesn't make me happy. The Aetna's are one of the considerations. And certainly the easiest. Biting the bullet and adding N2K monitoring to my engines, a la @SKybolt , is another.

What sort of calibration/configuration is required with the Aetna's?

Basically plug and play after setting the pulse per revolution. You need to order the trim rings so they fit right in the existing holes, but still fit without them. Just a little sloppy.

If my fresh water pumps aren't working is there an easy way to drain my fresh water tank on my 2002 400.
I can see where the water lines leave the tank on the starboard side but could not see a drain valve. The pic in my manual doesn't look like what I am seeing onboard.

I would think unscrewing the water line(s) on the input side of the fresh water pumps and letting the water drain to the bilge would be your best bet.

Just have to do a little bottom paint touch up and then buff & wax.

I've had the boat for 8 years now and have been totally confused by one thing the entire time. Why does the guest head have a floor drain outside the shower but the master head does not?

It’s because the master bath is a little further forward and the turn of the elbow for a drain doesn’t have room under the pan. It’s too low or close to the hull.
PS
This is a totally made up explanation.

SOLD

Would anyone have an interest in the dinette table from a 2003 400DB? We recently remodeled our interior and removed the dinette table. The table is in good shape, works well. All hardware is included except the floor fixture and the screws to attach the leg mount to the underside of the table (the mount itself IS included - see the pictures. It’s heavy, so it’s probably way too costly to ship. But if you’re in the mid Atlantic area, let’s chat.

Has anyone here replaced the mattress in the master/forward stateroom on the 400DB?

We did. Several folks in here did, too. You might want to try the search in the upper right corner, searching for "mattress". Click the box "Search this thread only" to keep your search within this 400DB thread. You'll find a few things people have done.

We replaced ours with a 10" memory foam mattress from Wayfair. I don't see the exact one on their site anymore but it was basically this one in Queen:
https://www.wayfair.com/bed-bath/pdp/wayfair-sleep-10-medium-memory-foam-mattress-w005834749.html

We trimmed it down to match the original one using an electric knife. Hmm.... with Thanksgiving next week I guess I should get that knife out and sharpen it, huh? (JK... different knife!)

Thanks. Ours is shot and wanted to see what others did before moving forward.

I've searched the web and found a bunch of custom makers locally and nationally.

So you ordered and cut... it was that easy?
